Fastest way to test is to disconnect all speakers and turn up the vol. If it clips it needs service, then re-connect 8ohm speakers one by one and test until you find the speaker or channel that shorts. Then take that same speaker and hook it up to another channel and test, if it shorts, you know now it is either the speaker or the wire. Now, use a new piece of speaker wire from the same channel that caused it to short, replace the old and test. If it shorts, you've got a problem with the speaker. If your handy with a multimeter, check the resistance at the speaker and you will have your answer. If you are not familliar with a multimeter, just hook up a different speaker where the bad one is and test. It's just process of elimination. Hope this helps

Power overload

That is a good thing, your receiver is going into "protect mode" that means the receiver is shutting down to keep from damaging delicate internal circuitry, it is sensing a speaker bottoming out or some other electrical "short" that could be damaging!
Also could be from over driveing the amp and then it starts to overheat thus going into "protect mode".
If your speakers are "clipping or distorting" turn it down, you are going to ruin your amp. Good luck !

Overload on home theatre reciever

Hello,
It would mean one of the power modules died. I believe they are STK412-530. Not an easy repair for a DIY.
Good luck

Vsx-517 keeps going into overload mode!

Try this:
1. Turn off the receiver.
2. Disconnect all the speakers from the back of the receiver.
3. Turn on the receiver. Does it still go into overload? If so, it may need repair.
4. If not, turn the receiver back off and connect one speaker at a time and turn it back on.

Most likely one of your speaker cables is shorted out causing your receiver to get overloaded. Or, one of the speakers is damaged, having the same effect.

OVERLOAD Message followed by receiver shutting down.

The First step in this would be to Check the Ohms Limit in the Manual and Compair to the Ohms on the Speakers that you are running and the Ones that came with it. Usually when you By the "Kit" the Speakers are Factory Matched with the Reciever. Let me Know!
