I do not believe this is a region-free DVD player. I believe it only plays Region 1 or All commercial discs. The manual for the SD-V296 is available from Toshiba here: http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/support/manuals/userguides/su2810535/SD-V296_OM.pdf .
1) Connect to TV 2) Power on DVD 3) Enter 7777 using remote 4) Use on-screen menu to change region code (region code 0 = region-code free) 5) Power off DVD
E1 Region Free Firmware here. RCE Hack. 1) Turn on player 2) Open tray, put disc in tray but don´t close 3) Push T.search on remote 4) Push 1, 3, 9 and "Region number" (e.g. 1 for US discs) 5) Push T. search on remote.
You will see TEST on your player
6) Press PLAY on the remote
When player is turned off, this setting is cleared.
