None of the four IDE drives and the floppy drive are recognised by the BIOS. I'm trying to decide whether this fault is caused by the collapse of one of the ALi chips; and if so, whether this board is now scrap. I need the block schematic to find out what the drives are connected to.

Try plugging the drives into another computer to see if they actually work, ie read discs etc if they do then try swapping the power supply out of your computer.. if this doesn't work then I would say your motherboard is dead. Good luck
SOURCE: Asus P5K-E Wifi/AP configuring sata as raid
I have 3 hard drives, one I have my windows system files on, and on the others I was planning on doing a mirrored raid. Is this possible? I couldn't get it to work, I put the hard drive mode into RAID mode or ACPI (or whatever the other mode was) and it doesn't allow me to boot into windows or anything, blue screen of death.
Only works in IDE mode, but I cant make it raid using IDE mode :"(

You need files in setup. Extract to floppy (all of
them) F6 at setup.
add a floppy drive..
or create another XP setup disk and place SCSI
driver accordinly.
You may have to take out the HDD - find the drivers
for that HDD at western digical -
m5287.sys
ULISATA.INF
ULISATA.CAT(optional)
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/408/ULI_SATA_RAID_Floppy_Driver_v6.2.2.1_Beta.html
copied those files in a floppy inside a folder "WIN_XP".. then during setup
f6 for driver selection..
then i just located tat floppy for drivers and my drive thus got
recognised

Bad BIOS checksum: the software on a chip on the motherboard has become corrupted.
Sometimes, you can find a "BIOS update" on the manufacturer's web-site, so that the contents of that chip can be refreshed,
i.e., by booting from a diskette (or from a USB memory-stick) that contains the replacement software.
Contact a qualified technician, and pay them for 1 hour of labour.
Or, replace the motherboard.
SOURCE: IDE Ports not working on ASUS P5LD2-VM Mobo
This MOBO requires a driver in order to run the EIDE slot, so before it can be used use the CD-ROM and master HDD in the standard IDE slot to run Windows up then install the drivers then you should be able to rearrange things to have HDD's in the EIDE and other stuff in IDE.
http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/P5LD2VM_DH/#download this is the download site, its the 2nd oiption in the RAID category
One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up
Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA
the leads from your motherboard to your hard drive make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ?
hope this helps
