I live in Michigan and set up my tomtom. I'll be going on a trip to canada in a few weeks and wanted to see how it worked. When I try to set up a route from home to the hotel where I'll be staying in Canada, I can't select Canada as a country nor will the tomtom locate the hotel I'll be staying at. How do I get it to allow me to pick Canada and actually be able to use the tomtom on my trip? I'm really confused about how this thing works.

By default, the TomTom ONE 125 does not include maps of Canada. You can do one of two things:

1. If you just purchased it and can take it back, buy a TomTom ONE 130. It includes Canada maps and usually is only about $10-20 more.

2. Use the TomTom Home software (the same one that you use to update the TomTom and add voices, etc) and purchase the maps for it. I'm not sure how much they are, but certainly less than a new GPS.

Hope this helps!

Can't get passed the searching for streets...

OK! I'll help you! read this fast! :)

I have a tomtom too, and it sounds like the map files are corrupt, it should have come with a CD, you need to plug your tomtom into your computer with the given USB, and turn on TOMTOM HOME. You'll then need to go to "Back up and Restore" and restore your tomtom to the factory settings! Also you might try to push the very small reset button located in a little hole somewhere on the device, you'll have to hold it down with a pin or something! THAT MAY WORK... but i know for a FACT that the restore WILL.

ALSO, if you dont have TOMTOM HOME, you can download it HERE: http://www.tomtom.com/services/service.php?id=16&tab=87

Hopefully this helps!!! :) Have fun on your trip!

Tomtom One not doesn't calculate arrival time correctly.

thats normal- estimate is always higher the units go by speed limits and you shave time off trip units adjust accordingly

Tomtom one 125 map

The reason the 125 is cheaper is because it only has the US map on it. Each map contains an activation file that prevents it from being used on different devices, so its doubtful that the other map will work for you. You can purchase the latest Canada/Alaska map from TomTom's site for $59.95.

Go to
http://www.tomtom.com/products/maps/

Select your device as the ONE 130 (since they don't have 125 on the site) and choose the Canada/Alaska map.

Cant use usa/canada map on tom tom 130 right out of the box

You have the option of unchecking items you don't want installed and updated every time you connect to TomTom Home. Reset the entire unit and update again to fix the error

Setting country on tomtom one

This TomTom comes loaded with 2 maps....Guam and the US with Canada. I too got stuck in Guam and it is not obvious how to get out of it. But here it is.
Go to Main Menu, then Change Preferences
Hit forward arrow twice
Go to Manage Maps
Hit forward arrow once and choose Switch Map
It should show you Guam and the US and Canada
Tap US and Canada and it should take you out of Guam!!
Mine did and I am now going to delete the Guam map.

Tomtom one

Okay, I fixed it and came back to tell the story in case some poor soul finds their way here with the same problem. Some of these tomtoms come with guam as well as us and canada. we didn't fat finger it; for some reason tomtom home stored us and canada on the hard drive (g) and took it off the device when it did its first update.

First, plug your tomtom into the computer and go to "remove items" and remove guam. it will give you the option to store it on the g drive which i did, (in case I should take a notion to go there soon.) this provides more space on your device.

Now go to "add maps, traffic, etc," in tomtom home and scroll the arrow to page forward until you see "items on my computer." click this and then click maps. hopefully us/canada is there, thats where tomtom home had put mine. click "add" for that item and it should upload to your device. this takes a long time. there may be an application that tomtom still wants to update to your device. do this before turning the tomtom off from the computer, i couldn't see that us/canada was there until I did this, and then I had to turn the tom tom off, and bring it back into tomtom home two times before I could see it had the map and was working again.

your compass will also be messed up after you have done any updates at all to your tomtom. this is tom toms new application, there is nothing we can do about it until they fix it someday. the tomtom still works right, you just don't have the cool compass options you had with the original. if you did a back up before you initial update you can go back to the older application if you want.

hope this helps people, as you can see above i was very frustrated because the nice people who really did try to help in this and other discussions had not experienced the problem and did not know the answer. maybe tomtom udates does different things at different times, but this is what it did to mine.
