Maytag microwave overheated.

After an extreme overheating/smoke out of a ceramic dish nad sigle item microwave has no power lights at all. IS there a reset or fuse or way to inspect for irreversble damage?

  • falcomf Oct 18, 2007

After checking the fuses, location of fuses is accurate in the fridgetech post, I had to look elsewhere for the issue. Under the skin at the top of the unit I found a small round thermostat. Using the ohm meter to test it was showing 0 resistance as compared to  other thermostats showing infinite resistance. Removed it, applied AC power and hot wired to leads together as a test. Unit now Boot's up. Ordered the thermostat. Would never run the unit without it!

There is a fuse that should be easy to get to behind the control panel.  Will need to take the grill off first to get control panel off.  Make sure unit is unplugged first.  There are high voltage parts in a microwave so you should have a professional do the work if you are not comfortable with it.  Would appreciate a solved rating for expert advice.

My new LG solardome MA3884vc overheats melamine plate @30 seconds

If your LG Solardome microwave oven is overheating a melamine plate within 30 seconds, there could be a few potential issues at play:
  1. Power Settings: Check to see if the power settings on your microwave are too high. If it's set to a high power level, it can cause certain materials, like melamine, to overheat quickly. Try reducing the power level and see if that helps.
  2. Plate Material: Melamine plates are not suitable for use in microwave ovens as they can overheat and potentially release harmful chemicals into your food. It's recommended to use microwave-safe dishes made of glass, ceramic, or microwave-safe plastic.
  3. Microwave Performance: If the microwave is consistently overheating items within such a short time frame, it might indicate a malfunction. In this case, it's best to contact LG customer support or a certified technician to inspect and repair the microwave.
  4. Placement and Usage: Ensure that the plate is placed centrally on the turntable and not touching the sides of the microwave. Also, avoid using the microwave for extended periods without interruption, as this can cause overheating.
  5. Testing with Different Materials: Try using a microwave-safe ceramic or glass plate to see if the issue persists. If other materials heat up quickly as well, it could indicate a problem with the microwave itself.

Smoke coming from under oven

You need a new microwave or you need an appliance repairman. Usually smoke in an electronic product means that there is a short in the wiring or overheating circuit board. If it is still under warranty take it back where you got it.

Maytag microwave overheated and shut off - Model #MMV5165BA

That is not good, the magnetron has gone, or the thermal fuse has failed, "protects the magnetron from overheating" There is a possibility the keypad control board was a affected.

I have a Panasonic Genius 1250 watt Mircowave oven & when giving it a chance to cook 2 potatoes at the same time on the side dish sensor option. The whole oven including the outside shell got extremely...

Sometimes when cooking dry foods such as popcorn, potatoes, etc. there can be some reflection back to the magnetron, which will cause overheating.

Try it with about 1/2 cup of water on one corner of the cavity.

That load may be enough to keep it from reflecting microwaves back down the waveguide.

When I go to use the microwave h98 shows up on the screen and does not work it is the 1.6 cubic panosonic microwave with inverter technology

f it is displaying error h98, this generally means that the inverter(power supply Panasonic part number: Z606YM300BP,) is not functioning. The magnetron may also be faulty.
The microwave may also have a faulty magnetron. If you are unsure, then you should get someone to look at the unit for you before you go buying parts.
An inverter microwave oven is one without a high voltage transformer You will know you have one as it is not extremely heavy at one end. This type of microwave uses a high power DC converter, called an inverter, to produce the high voltage and filament voltage required by the magnetron.
If you purchase this item for replacement in your microwave then we recommend that you do this only if you are qualified and aware of the dangers of tampering with electrical equipment.
Failure of the magnetron is common and at times the inverter can fail as well. Sometimes the inverter fails on it's own. If your microwave blows the 10 amp mains input fuse as the cooking cycle starts then you probably need a new inverter. An instruction sheet with basic guidelines on fitting will be provided but please do not purchase this item unless you are confident about fitting it. We only accept returns if the inverter supplied is defective which is extremely unlikely.
If you have one of these ovens that is not cooking then it is worthwhile looking at the magnetron. It often shows signs of distress through overheating.

The fuse blew on my emerson microwave oven and I replaced it. This fuse has now blown. What would be causing this? Thanks....Lee

Usually what happenes is the magnetron is dead, or is dieing. It is using too much power due to overheating, or it is just worn. This is a common thing for older microwaves. take the case back off, and clean the fins on the magnetron this will fix the overheating problem. Be careful. let your microwave sit for about an hour after being plugged in. This lets the capacitors that store dangerous voltages leak off. also make sure the new fuses are ceramic fuses that are rated for 15 amps at 250VAC Do not use glass fuses! You can find a new magnetron on ebay, or on the internet some where. You will need a DAEWOO 2M218H MFI magnetron. I just tore my microwave apart, and realized I have an exact replacement for it. I just swapped them out and they both work. cool. but yeah. that's what is most likely causing it. Good luck!

Boiled water and it exploded, now the microwave is broken

3 new or fairly new microwaves same problem????

Did you properly orient the exhaust vent and take out any shipping materials under the exhaust vent? Sounds like the exhaust fan itself may be overheating, smoking up the innards of the microwave and then the smoke is escaping though the hole where the carousel is located.

Either that or someone built the shaft of the carousel rotator out of the wrong material and the microwave is actually trying to cook (or arc) that piece, causing a fire.

Neat stuff!
