I need to know how to instal the operating system on my Compaq presario 5000. It says no operating system found, & i don't remember how to instal one. can someone please help me out?

What operating system are you trying to install.
If windows. You need the disk. Then when you switch on the computer you hold f12 or f8.(should display on the bottom of sreen)this will take you into the bios. you need to change boot order to boot from disk. Then you have to format hard drive etc. this can be quite tricky to explain. From this point i think your best option at the minute is to type what operating system you are installing into youtube. theres tons of people showing you how to install operating systems

what operating system have you got? You can load Windows XP clean on it and download drivers from hp.com . How much Ram have you got in the PC , maybe upgrade RAM?

PC DO NOT BOOT
It seems that you don't have any Operating System installed. You need some bootable OS setup disk, and change BIOS settings to boot you PC from CD. Insert disk and restart PC, then follow onscreen instructions to setup OS.

It appears that the hard disk drive is not being seen in the Bios. Ensure that both the power and data cables are connected to the drive and the controller. try booting again.

Compaq / Hewlett Packard Support Website. Make sure you have correct Compaq model (ie: Presario 5000). You should have a partition on the hard drive markes "system restore" or the likes. If not, you should have the O.E.M. (CD-ROM) that came with the system that will also let you re-install the operating system. A word of caution, if you try and re-install the O/S without the orgional CD-ROMS you may not have all the correct hardware drivers.
