Removal of the electric(coil) clutch that engages the drive belt for the mower deck. This is on an ingersoll rand garden tractor 4020 with an Onan engine. The coil shorted out last night, blew a 30 amp. fuse.Shut the tractor down , replaced fuse , tractor runs, however I need to replace the coil. How to remove it?

Problem has b een resolved. I found a pair of channel-loks narrow enough to get down on the back side of the motor. Was able to get a good hold on the coupling that drives the hydraulic pump and loosen the bolt that held the old PTO electric clutch. Once the bolt was removed, it dissassembled very easily. Installation of the new clutch, although it is different from old one, went well also. Be sure to install new unit as one unit,(not in separate pieces).

Thanks for you concern, as I was at a standstill for awhile. Thanks for being there.

My Husqvarna LGT 2554 deck hung up on high spot mowing. Turned off deck & mower pushed by hand. Engaged deck, started to mow, wound to stop. Belts fine. Pull up on knob to engage, you get nothing.

The engine runs but the blades do not engage? Make sure the wire connecting the electric clutch is still plugged in. If all is connected and the belt is really fine, there is a problem with either the electric clutch or PTO switch.

How do i change the drive belt on my L 130 ?

Remove the mower deck first.
Remove the electric PTO clutch assy.
Disconnect the clutch spring as to remove the tension on the drive belt.
From there it a simple matter of removing the belt from the pulleys. Depending the belt retainers you need to them too.

John Deere 265 replaced pto switch on dash pto drive belt and mower deck belt still pto does not engage...also randomly blows 20 amp fuse from time to time when pto would engage previously...checked...

The electrical is part of the PTO clutch assembly. It should only draw 5-7 amps. Ohm reading is somewhere between 1.7 to 2.5 ohms.

These coils do short from anywhere from a partial short to completely.

Why won't the blades engage on my Ariens 911403

Chances are the deck drive belt has been knocked off one of the pulleys or the drive clutch won't engage properly. With the spark plug wire removed, rotate the blades by hand and make sure they both move together. This verifies the blade linking belt is OK. Now engage the blade operating control and feel for resistance as you rotate the blades. If you feel no change in resistance, remove the belt cover and reinstall the drive belt over the pulleys and tensioner/clutch mechanism.

When I engage the blades nothing happens. Any ideas?

I have a YTH 150 with a similar problem. The mower has an electrically powered clutch which is activated when you engage the blade button. If the drive belt has no tension on it, engaging the clutch doesn't do anything because the drive wheel will just spin but the blades won't. Look for broken tension springs on the mower deck and replace.

Not sure, but i think the electronic clutch is not engaging when i push the control levers forward or backwards. the engine and the mower deck both run, but the mower will not move

The electric clutch is to power the blades/mower deck. There is a belt that drives the hydrostatic pumps to power the wheels. Make sure the Parking brake is OFF. Could be a belt, spring, idler pulley.

Hit a peice of metal, now mower won't engage.

The mower engages by an electronic clutch. If it doesn't squeal/smoke/start the mower deck when you try to engage the mower, then the electronic clutch is faulty (you may have sent shrapnel into the clutch), or the belt is cut or damaged enough not to drive the deck. If this problem is indeed associated with the mowing metal problem then you need to visually check under the engine - that's where the electronic clutch that drives the mowerdeck is located. You'll notice that there is a drive belt that goes from the engine to the mowerdeck. That's your drive belt. You should loosen the belt and check the mower deck to see if you can rotate the drive pulley and in turn this rotates the blades (of course you do this with the engine off). That would determine if it's the deck or the clutch that has issues. Your instruction manual will show you how to loosen the belt then try to spin the mower deck drive pulley. If it spins by hand then look back toward the clutch. If the deck doesn't rotate then it needs to be removed so you can flip it belly up to see what's hindering the movement. These decks clog easily, but if clogged when you try to engage the mower deck it will squeal. They're easy to remove (if you have some kind of overhead lift - if not they can be a pain). Good luck
