Camera turns on, shows image in lens for about 3 seconds, beeps three times, then shuts off. Lens is stuck in out position and camera is warm to the touch near the flash.
Okay.... Try this if lens is stuck out... look at the side profile of the lens... you should notice the it is not even.. the lens is probably stuck at a slight angle.. GENTLY force the lens to where it looks even... should fix the problem.... worked for me.
I replied back on one of the Samsung sites, but will post here also. First, thanks to all the suggestions and I did follow many of the "guest" ones. I had the camera all boxed up and ready to send to company, but decided to keep trying. I did all that was suggested, but nothing worked. The camera would bling, beep 3 times and the back would mainly be be black, but show icons for a few second and shut down. The lens never came out at all. I could not get camera to go to the Menu to do steps, so I just held the camera button down..to keep the camera powered and very very gently...tapped the camera on one side against my kitchen table. Then turned it over and tapped very gently againts the other...ALL the time holding down the On button.
And much to my great surprise...the lens came out and the camera was completely back to normal. I can't help but think something was just not lined up exactly right. The camera has been working just great ever since and I still am using..again, much to my great suprise, the very basic Energizer batteries.
I did as suggested and turned off everything I didn't need in the camera. Turned off the sound, and have it at the 1m setting, and I don't zoom or turn camera on and off every time I shoot. The battery shows it is still FULL now. I was thinking to when my camera first started problems and it was when I did swtich to the rechargeable. I know it should not make any difference and I know the setting to do to--as presented in book and by others posting here. But, now..I am so happy the camera works, i am very reluctant to try the rechargeable batteries again.
So, please..for all that have the bling, 3 beeps and shut down problem..try the tapping against table..very lightly. Maybe, first take batteries out, wait a few minutes and then start fresh.
I sincerely hope you will have good luck the way I did. And if you dropped the camera to begin with, and it quits, maybe you need to tap it again to line things back up. Believe me, this is just a suggestion. When nothing else works, you learn to try anything as there is nothing to lose.
Sorry, this is long, but I just wanted to let everyone know--don't give up on this camera. Try a little of everything.

this is judy again, and my little red camera is still working.
I am almost embarrassed to say that it just keeps on going and going now and nothing I do to it makes it quit working.
I keep the Kodak rechargeable batteries in it and I keep setting at 1m and not 3,4,5 or 6 and it does just fine with that.
We've had lots of rain here in Tenn and I've had it out in all the dampness and it's been in my jacket pocket and jarred abt and everything.
If I could think of any other possibilities, I would tell you as I so much want your camera to work for you--the way mine works for me. My camera never did feel too hot, but was warm to the touch when I had those problems. Now, it is never warm.
I guess if you've pulled at lens to straighten them out, switched batteries and set all settings to lowest possble to avoid battery drain, and nothing works, I guess there is a point where you do have to give up. I will read back thru all my postings, here on a few other sites where there were the same complaints, and see If I or anyone else had any other ideas. I also found out that the Casio camera had many of the same problems, but I have not owned one of them, so can't speak from experience. But, it makes me think this problem must be common to more than just the Samsung.
I will return here later and add more. And yes, I still wish Samsung would address this problem.

Ok, the last seems to have passed the test so here are my comments. Mainly, that I wish everyone would have as much success getting the Samsung working as I have. I fooled around with the camera today to see if I could return it to the time it didn't work and of course, the camera keeps working fine! I read the downloaded booklet the Samsung CD-ROM had with the camera and noted a few things. One said when using the camera for the first time, a menu will be displayed to set the date/time, language and battery type. This menu will NOT be displayed after setting up. So, I wonder if part of the problems later come from this. If you used the batteries that came with camera (if yours did) or if you bought some and used them, does the camera automatically set the battery you use? I did NOT set my camera when I first used it except for date. It was already in English mode. Anyway the regular batteries ran down so fast, that is why I switched to the rechargeable ones. I have tried and tired to think IF my problems started before the change or not.
Today, I did fool around with the camera and tried to figure out how to get to the battery setting. I finally did and had it written out previously, but then it wouldn't post. I know I went to the MENU and went over to the Select 2 item and went down the line--I had Overview--0.5, Power off--1min, LCD--save, Video Out--NTSC, Format--NO (and you know that if you say yes to format, you will LOSE all your photos as this wipes the slate clean) and then on the RESET....I hit the RESET button. I am always amazed when anyting works, but this kept my main settings, but allowed me to reset others and the item that came up...under the RESET word was BATTERY TYPE. Funny, as it clearly showed I was still on the regular Akaline batteries...and the camera was working fine. So, I just don't think the setting abt camera battery is all that critical. I went ahead and set the battery type to Ni-MH..
I think there was an ealier post abt the formatting and camera saying to format the card. You would only do this if this is a NEW CARD that has nothing on it and maybe needs formatting for this camera or some other Memory card that has items on it and needs to be removed. But, never, never hit the format if you have photos on it. They will vanish and the memory card will be blank. I think there is a program you can buy to restore them..but I am not sure.
Bottom line is the camera is still working fine and I can't deliberately find a way to make it NOT work!!
I did change the MP from my low setting of 1 up to 3 and I did notice that even this small change makes the battery do down faster...even though I get plenty picts from my Kodak rechareables. I also found in the booklet all kinds of things this camera can do--which does make it a great camera once you get it working.
I made some composite shots of my son, and it's neat to shoot a pict of him, then of his daughter and have them side by side. And they print out so great.
Just please don't give up. If you have new batteries or rechargeable batteries and you know they are charged and the camera says no and it beeps and blings...keep on trying. If you can get the camera to turn on..and hold the shutter half way down to keep the power on..then you can get to menu and maybe make some changes. In the old days, I would know to file down the battery tips to ensure connections were good, but that doesn't apply to these new cameras it seems.
I know this is long, but I just want so much for everyone else to get their camera up and working and I have just been lucky to do something that makes mine work. And it was just tapping camera, wiggling the lens, and jarring something into place. If I knew exactly what I did right, i would type it here instantly.
Please post if your camera starts working and also let us know what you did to get it going.

Remove battery for a minute and insert it again.
There is a Battery Type setting in the Menu of your camera.
Do the following:
- Press Menu/ Ok button
- Go to Set Up 2
- Scroll down to Battery Type
Two options under Battery Type:
- Alkaline- if you are using non- rechargeable battery
- NiMH- if you are using rechargeable battery
Finallly sent it in for repair - two times! First time, it took several weeks before I got it back. When it arrived it still would not work, so it had to be sent in again. Then they tell me I broke the camera myself so if they are to send it back (unrepaired) I would have to pay them $50. At this time, paying shipping costs back and forth I figured it wouldnt be cost effective. All together it cost me a total of $200 for 15 pictures taken with the first battery set, which after it would do nothing but beep three times. Some people mention the cause being that they dropped it, but I never did, it was like that straight out of the box.
My samsung 630 turns on fine now but now i go to take a picture and the red eye just blinks and blinks and blinks. it focuses but then the red eye just blinks. i can hold the button down to take a picture but if i do that the flash doesn't work then and the picture is dark. if i don't hold the button down to take a picture the red eye just blinks and goes back to like i never took a picture in the first place.
The tapping thing works!! I did it too gently the first two times i tried it.
Just to let you know the banging it against the table to even the lens back out worked perfect! My camera is now back up and running!

I wiggled my lens n heard as sound as if something was un sticking..I think with two toddlers it must have fallen in somthing and crusted around the lens as gross as it sounds if i were you i would try to wiggle the lens a little as soon as i did i turned on the camra and the lens went ion and the camra satrted working agian
I have tried everyones suggestions. My lense still won't come out. Then I realized how hot it was around the lense and monitor. Is anyone else having this problem. I've also just had my camera for under a year. I will still keep trying the tapping it on the table thingie. Good advice
Here's another tip for more Battery Life - Dim the LCD and turn off the AF lamp.
- Press the Center Ok button
- Press Right 2 times to Setup1
- Press down 5 times to LCD
- Press Right to Change
-DARK
- Down to AF Lamp **
-OFF
-Press OK 3 times to Exit Menu
Also, on the setup screen is a Speaker for Sound settings.
If you don't need the sounds, turn them off. this saves Battery Life too.
** I only use the AF Lamp ON if the Lighting is Dark and I'm using MACRO (flower) Mode.
Suggestions for Better Pictures and Longer Battery Life:
I take almost all ofthe Pictures with the Selector Wheel in AUTO
I Turn of the Red Eye Flash and use the Lightning Bolt with the A Instead.
Set the Picture resolution Down to a Lower Setting.. I don't use the 6M setting for E-mail Pictures.
Using a Lower resolution saves time writing to the card and save battery life.
Press the +/- button and then I select the 3M or 1M Mode
Press Down and Select SuperFine ( Many Squares )
Problem:
Pressed the Button and there is Long Delay before the Picture is taken!
The Flash isn't charged for the First Picture. So when you press the Shutter, there might be a 1 or 2 second delay while the flash Charges.
Fix this by pressing the Shutter Button 1/2 way before you take your first Picture. Do this right after you turn on the Camera and set up the flash.
The Flash will then Be Charged and ready for the First Shot.
Also, Hold the Shutter 1/2 way and let the Camera AutoFocus before pressing all the way. If it is in Focus you See a Green Box. If it Can't find Focus you see a RED box and your Picture will be blurry. Move Back and try again, or for close up use MACRO (Flower) mode.
But do the Same... Set Flash, Hold Shutter 1/2 way to Focus...

Ok, i tried the twisting the camera lens, cause its tilted thing, i tried the "tapping" it and I worry if I bust this thing I'll tear it up, it's a battery thing, get a good pair of batteries cause it turned on and then reset itself back to the lens sticking back out. i took the batteries out reset them inside and quickly took the battery out so the lens was in, so get a good good pair.
I had the same exact problem and i tried the above, hitting it, banging it, and my husband gently twisted the lense back and fourth and you could here it click back into place..problem solved..hope this helps someone else

Camera got dropped..had the same problem here, looked after reading this and the smallest part of the telescoping lense was just a little tilted. Gently moved it out and popped it back, works fine now. Another thank you for the tip!

Camera comes on briefly (a few seconds) beeps 3 times, and shuts off. I have tried new batteries, turned it on and quickly pressed Menu... A "Low Battery" message comes up on the screen. These are brand new batteries.. I've tried several from different packages, so I know it's not a bad pack of batteries. Removing the batteries and reinserting after a few minutes, does not help. I need help NOW, or this piece of junk goes back to the store.
I just received it(new camera), took about 8-10 pictures/15 minutes of use, scrolled through the menu settings, then it beeps and says `low battery`. It is not when checking with battery tester. The settings are on `Alkaline battery` so it should not be a problem. Replaced the batteries with new ones, and the same problem appears after turning on/off 2-3 times.
Also encountered two of my friends cameras (different brands, but with the exact same battery cover design) had the same problem which made them throw away dosens of good batteries. Have not tried with rechergeable ones.

Im having the same exact problem my camera turns on briefly and then turns off after beeping 3 times. I have rechargable batteries and I just bought the camera and the batteries 2 days ago. The camera was working just fine through the first 50 pictures I took then all of the sudden it stopped working and acting crazy and now my zoom is stuck out! HELP!!!
I have the same problem, only used the batteries for about 10 minutes, and the battery icon reads 2/3 full. I can't find the rechargeable batteries recommended.
Funny, I just had the same problem Friday afternoon and I just tried playing around with it to fix it and I just ended up leaving it alone, took the battery out and let it sit. I just tried it 5 minutes ago and it works fine.
AM I now stuck with this camera? I bought it due to ease of use and had the basics I wanted. NOW, when I turn it on, it doesn't even OPEN up camera lens. Just beeps 3 times. The batteries are fine, so that is NOT the problem.
I hope someone can offer a real solution or the Samsung company will send out updates on how to fix the problem.

I have this same exact problem. My camera lens is all the way out. When I cut it on...it waits a second then beeps 3 annoying times. Obviously there is a major malfunction with this camera. It should be taken off of the market before other people waste their money :) I've only had my camera for 6 months!!!
exactly the same problem. even with brand new NiMH batteries, the camera will do 3 beeps + shut down after about 20 seconds or so. no help from samsung.

Same problem, accually dropped it, lense would not go back in and you know the rest. I held on to end of the lense then pulled out on it. Part of it was out of place. I had to gently pull on it a couple of more times and it finally worked correctly when I turned it on.

Awesome advice! I fixed mine in about 2 seconds (after reading the helpful advice of others posted here). It's nice to know that there are others willing to share their experiences so we can fix our own stuff. BTW...Samsung's website does list this issue in their troubleshooting guide. Their suggestion is to replace the batteries or bring it in for service (obviously they can't really tell you to push the lens back into alignment...but they do acknowledge the issue).
Don't forget about the warranty folks...if it's only 6 months old, you're covered!
i was taking pictures the other day and my camera made a loud boom and ever since then the flash wont work and i can only take pictures without the flash . but it also says f 2.5 1/45 , whenver tha flash won't work ...

my samsung S630 camera has not been working at all... i put fresh batteries in it and still nothing. The lens is stuck out and i have tried to press it back it... it is slightly crooked so i tried to press it even an all it did was push in more but still crooked. the lens is still stuck out and when i press the on/off button all it does is beep really loud three times and then shut back off.. please help me if you have a solution.

When turning off, zoom lens is stuck in the out position. Zoom functionality won't work either.
