John Deere riding mower SRX95 - Steering wheel is sticking

John Deere riding mower SRX95

Steering sticks when attempting to turn the wheel in either direction while mowing. When you turn it to the left there is play before the wheels turn. Will appreciate some advice on how to fix.

Sounds like the bushing above the steering gear is worn and giving you alot of free play.If the teeth of geaar are worn it indicates that front steering spindles are binding up in axle do to lack of grease. When you repair steering on this model its best to replace gear and shaft as one along with the bushings. If steering wheel pops off quickly it can be repaired within an hour at the dealer.

John deere 68 riding mower steering column won't turn wheel assembly via arced toothed plate. Wheel assembly OK and greased. Some minor play when rotating steering column with steering wheel, but appears...

Just had same problem with my craftsmen. There is a very inadequate little nylon bushing supposed to keep that shaft stable. When worn out it allows that shaft to move and puts the gears in a bind. It is located on the end closest to arced gear where shaft hooks to drag link. Its a pain.

What would cause my John Deere Sabre 25hp 54"cut to be hard to steer ?

Your tractor has a simple worm gear turning another worm gear system.Either the one of the spindles in the front wheels is sticking or the worm gear is not meshing or you need to replace the worm gear on the steering shaft it's self. Also,if the tie rods are not set right then the wheels may turn hard, set the tie rods so that they have 1 to 1 and 3/4 inches of tow in in the front wheels.
