Go to your task barat the bottom of the screen and look for the mini icon of the battery with a ac power plug right click it and go to more power options and brows through there there should be an option to change the power settings and you need to make sure that when on ac power it is set not to power down or sleep or shut off hard drive. if you need more information let me know what Operating system you are using and i can be a little more detailed

Sony Vaio VGN-SZ18GP Windows 7 shutdown problem .... when I shut down .... it gets stuck on the screen of shutdown but the "loading circle" is still running

This can be a sign of a memory failure, either the RAM is not clearing or the hard drive is on its' way out. Hold the power button down for 6 seconds for a "hard shutdown". Then restart and see if the problem persists.

I hadn't charged my Sony Vaio model PCG-61611L for a couple days. Then when I finally plugged it in to charge, it won't turn on. I even left it plugged in for a few days and still nothing. It has...

Try A Hard Reset

Remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your Sony Vaio laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the laptop.

This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset.

Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord
and turn your laptop on.

If that does't work try removing ram and reinstall. Sometime this works with these laptops.

It's possibly overheating. If so, you can clean the cooling fins on the heatsink, and/or sit the unit on a cooling "plate"; they usually have a USB plugin to power their fans.

Sorry i nay be a month late on this thread... but better late than never. My Girlfriends sony vaio VGN-CS215J seems to be doing the exact same thing. After buying one of those computer fans that you rest the computer oneverything seems to be running normal. i would also recommend cleaning your fans inside the computer because dirt dust and grime can hold the fans back from cooling down the laptop efficiently and will cause the safety overheat shutdown to activate and shutdown your computer... that way it does catch on fire or fry any of your hardware inside of your computer.

If that does not work... your fans maybe malfunctioning or not functioning at all. this model of vaio has a grinding fan issue that can be very damaging to your cpu if not fixed.

hope this helps,

DIP SWITCH BIOS RESET POSITIONS SONY VAIO VGN-fs660

Hello,
There are 2 ways you can reset your bios2_bing.gif.

1. On the motherboard there is a small watch battery. Remove this battery along with the power cable from the power supply. Hold down the power button to fully discharge the system. Wait 2-3 minutes then reinstall the battery and plug in2_bing.gif your system. Your reset is now complete

2. Some motherboards have a 3 pin jumper by the battery. Lets say that the jumper is on pins 2 and 3. Remove the jumper while the machine is OFF and place onto pins 1 and 2. Power on your machine for a minute. (Note: Your system will not POST). Shutdown your machine and put the jumper back to pins 2 and 3. Your reset is now complete

This is a great troubleshooting2_bing.gif step for those of you having POST issues or no POSTing at all. Like other troubleshooting steps, this will not always work but usually will depending on the problem.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Thanks.

Sudden laptop power shutdown Sony VAIO VGN-T250

Well, your BEST option is to get it fixed. Fortunately, many places charge about 100 bucks to replace the power connection on the board, unless you know how to do that yourself. Or, you can purchase another computer just like it, and keep that one for spare parts. But, if you want my advice, call someplace and ask how much to repair the DC jack. Pick up the phone, the call is free. :)

Sony vaio vgn series doesn't turn on no power

You should try another ac adapter. If that does'nt work the power jack where it plugs in may be bad or the power board under the power button is bad.You should try another ac adapter first though.

AC Power adaptor wont work without usb printer connected

Hey alberto,
First off thanks for choosing Fixya.com. The Ac adapter itself could be bad or it could be the dc jack. And also the problem with your cpu fan could also be that the fan has gone out or the motherboard itself needs to be replaced.

Ethernet controller driver on vgn-cr116e running xp

if your system is new and it was made for vista your probably not going to get it to work
try the download again if still does'nt work then i'm sorry to tell you but vista will need to be installed. There are ways around it but your ethernet will not work properly so if you really want xp you'll need to have the ethernet changed and possibly other things depending on the pc
it would'nt be worth it for you to change things in your system to be compatible with xp
