I think I can help. Place one end of the chain over the rear gear (doesn't matter which one, the biggest) and adjust the lever or twist ring on the handlebar so the derailleur lines up in a straight line with it. Pull the chain from the rear sprocket down and over the pivot wheel and back over the bottom wheel so it looks just like this S and the end comes forward. Join the chain links. Place the chain over a couple front teeth and turn the pedal carefully until the chain seats on the front sprocket.

Repair chain on 20" mongoose ravage bike

Use this tutorial from Park Tool: Repair Help
If the chain is old you can just replace it without any more work than repairing it, but it's possible you would need to replace the rear cog as well.

Putting the chain on

While the bike is in riding position loop the chain on the back sprocket. If this is a single speed bike then place as much of the chain as you can on the top of the front sprocket. Once it is partially threaded you can crank pedal around a half a turn and the chain will pop on the rest of the teeth.

I need to find a part # for a chain ring for a Mongoose XR-75 mountain bike

Mongoose didn't make the chainring. They're generic (like most bike parts) and have many substitutes. Determine the parameters and then go looking for one that fits.

Other parts may also be worn, like the chain.

I recently purchased a 20"

The chain guard is usually fastened to the seat tube of the bike (the frame tube coming up from the pedal area to the seat) with a plastic band. If this band is broken or missing, and there is excessive play in the chain guard, I suggest removing it entirely or returning the bike as it may be a hazard.

Chain is slipping and jumping gears

okay lets ask why it broke did it get jammed?was it worn?is your front crankset or rear gearset loose with play in it?does the chain make a clicking while pedalling hard? first and last require a replacement chain because it broke for a reason.if your drive gears are loose then you will have to adjust/repair them also checking adjustment on the derailuers should be checked.
hope this helps

I have a moutian bike an the gears want change the back gears are slipping so i cant ride

Try this: shift into the highest gear and release the derailleur cable at the derailleur. Pull it taut and retighten the pinch bolt. Give it a thorough washing and degreasing, too. A clean drivetrain is a happy drivetrain. Remember to use bike chain oil, not anything else, on the chain and ONLY on the chain.
