Mitsubishi VS-50705 50" Rear Projection Television Logo
Posted on May 04, 2009

Turned TV on and screen has a concave look to it.

Tried to adjust the convergence since the edges were really out of whack...this did not help. Top & bottom & sides are pushed out past the edge of the screen...

Picture is still good in the middle of the screen but the outside edges are bowed up and out...

Have not called technician but would like some help before I call someone!

The picture projects the image with concave lines on the edges. I'll explain further: somehow the picture is distorted in a way that bends the four edges of the picture in a curved-concave manner so that...

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

I have a Mitsubishi Rear Projection tv (vs-50705). The picture shows a concave image on the top and bottom of screen and the edges go off the screen. I have red blue and green ghost images on the screen...

Well, you did the right first step. However, when the convergence outputs toast up they sometimes cause other problems. First would be the fuses that supply them voltage. These are pico fuses back in the power supply. Second would be open supply resistors that have opened up because of the excessive current draw caused by the whacked out convergence amps. When changing the outputs doesn't solve the problem it takes the repair out of the realm of the do-it-yourselfer. My recommendation is to let a professional take over.

Mitsubishi projection tv

I have a similar problem. I have tried to fix the convergence via the remote and that has not helped. My three colors are separated and the edge of the picture is bent in toward the center. I am going to try a hard reset but i suspect the convergence IC are fried. Since the set is not HD, I will probably replace it if the hard reset does not work.

Convergance/bowing

most like tes thats all your going to have to replace + the silicon as if you dont thet wil not last as long as they should. Also you may have blow fuseable resistors next to the ICs make sure you check them as well.
