After you use the diverter to get the water to the shower head, you leave it alone. When you turn the water off the diverter will automatically go back to its default position of faucet.

SOURCE: Shower diverter problem

It is very possible that a piece of rubber from the old washer or some debris has found its way into the shower diverter or the showerhead. The first thing to try, is to take off the showerhead and see if you get water without it. If you get water then your problem is solved!!! Puchase a new showerhead or take apart the old one and soak it in CLR or Lime-Away to clean it. If that doesn't do the trick than, Turn off your water supply to hot and cold. Remove the diverter (if possible) and inspect for debris. If you want you can also take out the hot and cold stems for a total inspection of the inside of the faucet. You can then flush out the inside of the faucet cavity with a Turkey Baster or something to that effect. Put it all back together ( use a bit of vasaline on all the rubber washers so they do not get stressed when re-installing) and you should be able to take a shower.....Also, if it was a cartridge you replaced, you may have inserted it 180 degrees opposite......Hope this helps.....Joe

SOURCE: Kohler K-9511-BN MasterShower Shower Arm & Diverter Doesn't Work

As a helpful hint , on these models, When installed some plumbers or home owners use plumbers putty to seal the threads and in some cases tape.
Most of the time the putty or tape gets pushed through the system if too much was used.
Check by removing the shower head and testing the pressure and blowing anything else through, then checking the head itself for foreign objects.
Kohler has a cleaning and care page on thier web site if it needs cleaned.

SOURCE: shower diverter push handle is squirting water out

If you are handy, the best solution is to call delta and have them send you a new diverter. They will need the model of your faucet. The new diverter will come with instructions on the install process. As far as fixing it without the new diverter, I don't believe you will be able to.

SOURCE: single handle tub faucet will not divert to shower

the diverter on the tub spout is bad you need to replace the tub spout or the pull up diverter if its a separate piece if you have the owners manual with a parts diagram you can order it on line from the manufacturer or a plumbing supply store. you will need to unscrew the tub spoup from the wall to do this use a broom handle or something similar inserted inside the spout and turn it to the left to remove it from the wall

The pull valve that directs the water from faucet to shower head is stuck. water leaks from shower head and can't turn it off with faucet controls. when main water line is turned off, the valve moves...

it is full of lime and scale from mineral deposits.
either chip it away to clean or remove and replace the spout with a new one which is the easiest thing to do instead

Water comes out of kitchen tap then slows down to nothing at all comin out

If the aerator is clear of debris, there is a valve of sorts in the center of the faucet that diverts water to a spray nozzle (the sprayer on a hose that would be next to the faucet). Even if you don't have the sprayer, most all kitchen faucets have this diverter valve. It's a bit like the thing (in a bathtub/shower combination) that switches the flow from the tub spout to the shower head.

Sometimes, something will work its way into the diverter so that it stops the flow to the tap. It could be a piece of debris (mineral flake, rust flake, etc.) that can be backflushed out. This would require removing the faucet and removing the main valve assembly. Long story short, think about replacing the faucet if the diverter valve is acting up.

We have installed a moen 82490 one handle tub & shower unit. When we turn on the water you could shower and bath at the same time. If you pull the plug for just a shower the water to the spout stops...

If you pull the silver knob on the tub spout up, the diverter located located inside will redirect water up to the shower head and when lowered it will return the water to the tub spout. It sounds as thought the diverter is not working properly. Hope this helps..

I bought a tub/shower valve system from lowes. When I turn on the faucet for the tub, the water comes out the tub faucet and the shower head at the same time. Is this a defective valve? Everything seems...

it sounds like the tub filler itself. When you pull the knob up it's supposed to divert the water to the shower, if it's coming out both, I'd look at that piece, inexpensive and easy to replace

Water comes from both the shower head and bath tub faucet when bath is turnd on and wont turn off when shower is on

if it is standard shower where you pull the knob up when water is running. the pull knob lifts a flap to shut off water to bottom faucet it proably has some buildup on the flap clean well with some clr or other calcium cleaner like it so the flap gets a clean seal on downspout
