I switched from DSL to Comcast for internet provider. I have a Motorola Surfboard SB5120 modem that I cannot set up for service. I cannot get past the initial installation off the disk they provided. The Network adapter is recognized but connectivity check fails.
The Send light continuously blinks. The Power light and Receive lights are both at a constant green. PC/Activity light is lit amber.
I've tried to install on both HP Pavilion A520n desktop and Dell Latitude laptop with same error.
This usually means something is not correct with your incoming signal. If your cable wire into the modem is being run off an amplifier in the wall this could be effecting your service. If the signal is too strong the modem won't be able to communicate for internet.
You could check the incoming wire to see if it is running off an amplifier. If it is you would need to run a new line that is not on the amplifier. I would recommend comcast coming out to check the signal frequency and make the necessary adjustments.
You would need to trace the line either from the wall out or from the cable into the house to the room to see if it is attached to an amplifier. This is a pretty big task if you do not have a basement or crawl space to see how the wiring is handled. The cable company has a tool to check and see the frequency coming in from the wall. If it is too high and too difficult to remedy through the wall they will attach something that will step down the frequency before it gets to the cable modem.
If the cable internet is not working, you can call the ISP and they will come out and fix this at no cost. That would be my recommendation to you.

Thanks for the advice. How/where do I check to see if an amplifier is installed somewhere? The jack is on the second floor.
