Hi there I have had the Tv for 5 years and it's been prefect! 2 Day's ago a buzzing noise could be heard that went off with the mute. It sounds like it's in the back ground however, the buzzing sound is proportional to the volume. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thank you in advance.
I would first check any of your inputs (i.e. cable, satellite, DVD player, ect...). If you hear this buzzing sound regardless of what input you are using, then it has to be the TV. If it's the TV causing it, audio is produced on the main board or A board named by Panasonic. It is the board that has the A/V inputs on it (cable, HDMI, component). This model has 2 different main boards it could use either TNPH0721ACS or TNPH0721ATS. As a TV repair technician, I often use Tri-State Module and would recommend them for parts. If you don't know which board you need, their customer service is helpful. I hope that helps.
Testimonial: "Hi there Thank you very much for the answer however, I switch off the TV from the TV (not the remote) and disconected the power supply, waited 2 minites and reconnected. This seemed to do the trick, no more buzzing! (Must have been the loving way I did it!) But, thank you again it could have been an expensive fix."

The fact that the television fell means that the warranty is voided. That is considered physical damage. If you did not mount it, try contacting whoever did and see what options you have, if any.
SOURCE: made a pop sound then screen went black- won't power back on
I'm sure you've resolved this by now, but I am brand new to this site and have the same TV, and have had the same issue. Sorry it's a bit late.
The pop was definitely the bulb bursting. You can pretty easily do this bulb replacement yourself as Panasonic has provided a nice little pull out module that can be removed by popping the front plate off (which requires no tools at all) and then opening the hatch where the bulb assembly is and loosening just one screw. Once that is done you will be able to slide the entire bulb assembly out of the TV. Though they don't always shatter, I suspect that since you heard it "pop", you will find this assembly full of broken glass.
You can either buy an entire new assembly such as this one...
http://www.alltvlamps.com/product_p/ty-la1000.htm
and just slide the new one in,
or if you're comfortable with it, you can open this lamp assembly up by removing just a few more screws (about 4) and just replacing the bulb. I did need to buy a very long #2 Phillips head screw driver to reach one of the screws.
If you search Google for TY-LA1000 you will find both the lamp kit and just the bulb. Be careful though for the really cheap bulbs, it does make a difference, so if it seems drastically cheaper than all the others, there is likely a reason.
Hope this helps you and sorry for the slow response.

SOURCE: noise from hitachi 42PD5000
The noise is coming from one of the plasma driver boards. There are 2 inside the set. These are essentially power supplies for the plasma itself and contain many capacitors. The noise you hear is some oscillation inside a cap or two. This is an indication that one or more components have drifted from their rated value. While the set will continue to work for a while, that board should be replaced. If the board fails, 1/2 of the picture will be blank or the set will not start at all. Call around to get the cost of that board. Please note that continued use of the set WILL NOT cause any harm. This is an annoyance only at this point.
