if the blades are staying engaged all the time try and unplug the switch if they still stay on you have a short also try getting off the seat that should shut them off as well shifting into reverse should shut them off as well if they stay on threw all that you have a shorted wire in the system
Yes, probably a short, and I think you should look at the ignition switch as the first suspect. It has two switches inside - one to send battery power to the various components, and a separate one to ground out the magneto when the mower is turned off. Could be a short between the two parts of the switch. Test it if you have the tools, otherwise try replacing it. Good luck! If this is helpful, please take a moment to rate my solutions, thanks!
Craftsman is made by Poulan.
How old is the saw? Have you checked for split fuel hoses? Change the cc to model number (2.2cc Craftsman is often Model 2200 Poulan) and try to find an IPL http://www.ordertree.com/cms/illustrated-parts-list/9788.html. This will show hose routing. As a last resort you may try the "Chainsaw forum here http://www.arboristsite.com/. These are good guys but you will be flamed for buying a homeowner saw.

I'd put the filter back on.
Have you ever remove the plug to verify the bobin still delivery a good spark right after the unit shut-off? The aging bobin could loose a high voltage section [short out] when the temperture rose.
check the oil in it some of the new mowers have a low oil shut down switch on them so engine doesn't blow up the other thing you can try is sprying carb. clean in carburator try these & let me know , wade
