I have a 1993 SUBARU station wagon 4wd and am having trouble filling the petrol tank, there is obviously an airlock, but the breather pipe on the petrol tank is not blocked.can anyone help?
The filler pipe gets full and you have to wait till it drains and keep repeating this till the tank is full. The breather pipe below the filler pipe is not blocked.Cars dont get airlocks but petrol tanks do,has to be an airlock otherwise petrol would go in.The filler pipe gets full and you have to wait till it drains and keep repeating this till the tank is full. The breather pipe below the filler pipe is not blocked.Cars dont get airlocks but petrol tanks do,has to be an airlock otherwise petrol would go in.

The filler breather seems to be leaking. This is a pipe that comes from the top of the tank to the fuel filler hose very near to the tank cap. Also check the filler hose neck itself.
on the wagon thay made the vent breather for tank when filling to long unfortunitly their nothing you can do other than feed it really slow backing the pump hose off just alittle but not always affective.
This sounds like the breather pipe is blocked, there ought to be a small pipe coming from the top of the tank that allows air to escape when you put in fuel, if this becomes blocked then you are fighting tank pressure.
Another thing to try is to turn the pump handle through a different angle, sometimes they fill better from a different angle, again, this is due to the air pressure changes as you pump in fuel.
its not a vehicle security problem
