Connect a phonograph turntable to a receiver w/o phono connection

How should I connect a phonograph turntable to a digital receiver without a Phono connection? I tried connecting to the Aux In. The phonograph plays but I get very little volume.

You will need a little box called a pre-amp. This hooks up between the turntable and newer receivers without a phono input. A basic explaination & drawing of this type of setup can be found here

Do you need a pre-amp to connect this turntable to a receiver that has no Phono input jack?

Yes, a TurnTable can be connected to any of the Analog Audio Input ports on the Sony STRDH130 Receiver. However, the turntable signal will need amplification from an external pre-amplifier (or an inline amplifier) as this Receiver does not have a PHONO input.

How can I connect a Thorens 145 turntable to it?

Your Harman Kardon AVR 85 doesn't have "phono" inputs. That means that you can not connect a turntable to it directly. You will need a "phono preamp" to amplify the very tiny signal from the phono cart enough for the HK receiver to play it. Something like this:

PYLE PRO PP444 Ultra Compact Phono Turntable Preamp

will do it. There are certainly better ones, like:

How to hook up a turntable to a pioneer vsx-1019

receivers with a PHONO input can connect a turntable easily by just connecting the white and red stereo audio cables from the turntable to the phono inputs on the receiver. receivers without a PHONO input can still connect a turntable by using a phono-preamp whose output can connect to any analog stereo input on the receiver like CD or AUX. How do I connect a turntable circa 1979 to this reciever? the manual says something about a preamp. I was wondering if this was necessary.

Yup, get a PHONO preamp.

"PHONO" is the only designated connection on an audio device that is literal and exclusive. Nothing but PHONO will work right on it and old-school turntables would require it to preamplify the tiny current produced by a Phono cartridge.

If your unit doesn't have a PHONO connection you will have to get a Phono Preamp to connect between the TT and any Line Level input, like Aux.

Can I connect a turntable to the Mitsubishi M-VR400 receicer?

If it has a "Phono" input it is a direct connection. If not, you need a pre-amp, pricing on them start as low as $25.00, just be aware that you get what you pay for! If it's a high end phonograph, get a good pre-amp.

Google "phono pre amp" in shopping, you'll find lots. Hope this helps

Faint sound slight buzzing

Connect it to the PHONO input of a receiver that has one or get a PHONO preamp and place it between the TT and your electronics.

SONY TURNTABLE PSLX22

You have to make sure your unit is connected to the PHONO INPUT connection on your receiver. If your receiver does not have a PHONO INPUT connection, then you will need to buy what's called a PHONO PRE-AMP - AVAILABLE HERE.

You connect the turntable to the Phono Pre-Amp, then you connect the Pre-Amp to the LINE IN or AUX IN of your receiver.

How to connect turntable Technics SL BD20 to marantz SR7000 amp

Most recievers should have Phono Jacks labled on the back. That is where my Turntable an (MCS made by Technics but was sold under the J. C. Penneys name) connects on my JVC. I have 2 JVC 's One is old (1972) and one is new. Both of them have Phono jacks. Phono stands for Phonograph. This is an old term for turntables. The jacks should accept RCA patch cords. Good luck.
