The freezer is making a buzzing noise and starting to defrost....
I don't have a manual for it! :(
There is a red light on (on the front of the appliance-it has a triangle above it)-is this a warning light? and the fast freeze yellow light comes on when it is switched to fast freeze.
Turning it off and on gets rid of the buzzing but not for long.
Any help appreciated.
James
You may have a bad compressor or a bad compressor relay. The buzzing noise sounds like the compressor trying to start but can't. Unplug the unit and pull the relay off the compressor. If it rattles like gravel in side it replace the relay. If it doesn't then you may need to call a repairman to check the compressor. Hope this helps.
there are several different versions of a compressor relay. It is located on the side of the compressor and all the wires hook to it. You may have to pop off the compressor cap to get to the relay. Many times it is a 2 piece relay. Brown relay on top and white and black overload on bottom with one wire hooked to it. The overload almost never goes bad.
Replace that relay. Bad relay makes the compressor very hot. You can actually use part #8201786. It is a whirlpool # but it will work.
you are welcome. Thanks for using fixya.com and don't forget to rate me. Thank you DM

Thanks-where do I find the relay and what should it look like?

hI-WHAT DOES THE R4ELAY LOK LIKE?
Right. Got it off. It does rattle but hardly like a bag of gravel-more like a switch being opened and closed. It's made by Klixon and has a variety of numbers on it.
The buzzing seems to be coming more from the top of the freezer (it's a frost free model) and the compressor gets hot when it's on and there are various dripping sounds inside the two tubes running down the back....
Compressor/ relay/ something else?
sounds like a good idea.
thanks
Apparently the part I need is the same as on the Servis M767. It's on order.
I also decided to smell the relay. Perverse, perhaps, but smell that burn! Nearly a house fire there!
And thanks again.
