Tv made a popping sound, screen went out, could hear show, and a sound like a hamster wheel, and tv shuts itself off. the first time a red light came on front panel. sussquent attempts to turn tv on, no sceen, no sound, except for the sound like a hamster whell for a few seconds, then nothing for several seconds, then hamster wheel sound...repeats this a few times, then powers itself off, no red indicators or any other indicators come on the front panel. I change the bulb about every 2 years; this bulb is still on its first year.

I don't know your set in particular, therefore I will be generic.

On some projection sets, there is an hours counter that is manualy resetable. Make sure that it is reset. If you can have a readout of the amount of hours used on the lamp this will tell you if this needs to be reset.

Normaly, when the set reacts as per your description, there is a cooling problem, or a fault in the power supply.

Also with your model of set, check to see if there are any safety switches that work with the cover or door for the lamp access. With the safety switch option, if the uPC thinks that the lamp is not properly enclosed or installed it will not allow for proper startup.

Code 22 indicates that your set is in shut down due to what is called Short Protect. The most likely cause is the Converge Ic's drawing too much current and opening one or 2 fuses. Normal repair cost varies by area and servicer. Expect 250 to 350 plus the service call. I normally do this on site.

It sounds to me like your bulb has burned out. Look behind your TV for where the bulb housing is and pull the bulb out to check if it's burned out or not. You'll know when you look at it if it's toast.

I have a Sony 50" WEGA rear projection tv. Last night it made a popping sound and then the screen went black. I could still hear audio at that time. I turned the tv off and now there is a blinking red...

It sounds lamp in tv got broken as you heard pop sound of it, replace lamp in tv to fix the issue.
Blinking light would be Lamp light at tv front that shows lamp is dead.
Lamp replacement procedure is easy and mentioned in tv user manual.
Thanks.

No picture or sound

Hi,do you hear any strange noises? If you hear clicking or like wanting to turn on it could be the board that powers the lamp it's called the ballast. Here's the instructions to replace it :http://www.fixyourdlp.com/guides/samsung/bp47-00033a.php It's major symptoms are clicking, electrical sounds, shuts off and on and get the lamp indicator. But if you don't hear any strange noises,tv is around 6000 hrs,2-4 yrs,It's major symptoms are clicking, electrical sounds, shuts off and on and get the lamp indicator, it could be time to replace the lamp. The lamp you need is XL2100 you can find it here:http://www.discount-merchant.com/Sony-XL-2100U-TV-Lamp-p/sony_xl-2100u_replacement_lamp.htm?Click=48173 .Have a blessed one!

Heard a pop, tv went off, then doesnt come back on

Your unit has some sort of PSU fault, or a problem that is shutting down the Power Supply Unit, PSU. This happens so that no further damage, and possible fire will occur. The sound is it starting up, shutting down, over and over.

You need to take the unit to a reputable service centre/man and ask for a firm "Quote" for the work to be done.

this specific type of TVs flash their standby light if the onboard testing system sniffed out a problem

so, as if your TV is trying to tell you "i have a problem and i need to be serviced"

TV will not power on.

I guess your TV is DLP.
Please notice the follow symthoms:
When you on TV, did you hear some strange noise from the back of the TV. If yes, the color wheel needs replacing.
If no, check the lamp. Take a look to bottom of lamp, you will see white pot or sometime a pop up there due to lamp cycle is going to end. When changing lamp, check the ballast and power sup, too. If you see caps are poping up. Pull out those board and replace the poped caps.
