To hear audio from your surround sound (stereo receiver) the audio signal needs to be managed by the receiver. You likely have your DVD machine connected (going into) your receiver, then your receiver going into your TV --- your receiver is splitting the audio to the speaker, then the video to your tv. To get your TV signal split, you need to have your cable signal going into your receiver as opposed to into your TV directly.
On the remote press the surround mode button and set it to Prologic movies or music when you are watching TV to get the rear speakers to work. Or if you have Digital cable TV with Dolby Digital 5.1 content, make sure you have connected theLG to your TV using HDMI v1.3a. There is an audio return channel on this cable which will stream 5.1 audio signal to the LG system.
Get the TV-related audio from the same place the TV gets it - the cable box. TV's aren't known for their great audio capabilites and usually only pass stereo audio.
look at the back of your tv does it have a audio out RCA jack? it should do plug in the surround sound into that using RCA cables
if your tv does not have audio out RCA jack then you can
get a adapter which makes scart connectors turn into RCA jacks get that off ebay
plug the yellow line to the tv and connect the red and white to suround sound but with this there are a few problems sound will only come out when surround sound is turned on and skys sound will never play out the tv if you switch to a PS3 or something it will not play suround sound
yuo best option is the RCA plugs in the back of the tv
because you have not written the model number of the tv or the suround sound i cant help any further
do you wan the suround sound to play sound for what the tv is displaying or just the ps3
for just ps3
connect hdmi to ps3 and tv connect optical to ps3 and suround sound change video settings to hdmi change sound settings to optical it asks to set settings automatically you have tyo doo it manually
if you want to play every thing that tv displays then connect ps3 to tv with hdmi connect suround sound with hdmi to tv (this might not work) if it dont work then
connect ps3 to tv with hdmi and your tv should have sound out or something along those lines it should be two phono plugs in the back of the tv connect that to the suround sound
is the surround system connected to the cable box. normally its the aux input. if your using a optical cable it should say digital in. try inputing your surround system to either one. the wires should be output from the source(tv,cable box) to the input of your surround system
