SOURCE: Black and Decker 16 in Hedge Trimmer

I use a dremel with a sharpening stone, if u don't have one you can also use a power drill with a small sanding disk (1 inch) and course sand paper (30 or 40 grit). or you can use a bastard file. its too tight to use any kind of angle guide so just take your time and do it by eye. it shouldn't take much to get them sharp enough to do the job, over-sharpening is unnecessary and dangerous, and will make the blades dull faster. sharpen all the free blades, top and bottom, then start the trimmers to advance the blades to free up the sides you couldn't get. i use a light penetrating oil to clean the blades first, then lithium grease spray to lubricate.

SOURCE: Cutting blade doesn't move

a homelite is disposable, get a new one. You can pull it apart and see what broke and how much the new parts are. worst case, get the new one.

SOURCE: Ryobi 18V Hedge Trimmer Blade Question

Just buy a file and push 3 or 4 down strokes down the same slope of the cutter toward the sharp edge. Never file on the flat top of the cutter, only on the slope. Support the frame using a saw horse or pick-up bed. The support makes the file cut the metal better. You can do the same thing with chain saws. You just need the file that fits the cutter. You just hold a consistant angle and count out the same number of strokes. Also, clean out junk between the moving parts, tighten any loose screws, and drop a few drops of 3 in 1 oil between the moving parts. Having things sharpened at a shop is inconvenient and expensive.

SOURCE: sharpen hedge trimmer blade??

My trick is to make sure that I always lube the blades after each session with a 3/4 engine oil + 1/4 kerosene mix - making sure that every tooth gets a drops or 2, then run it for a seconds to spread the oil & leave the blades overlapping. Doing this allows the blades to self sharpen I've found. 2 stroke oil , unmixed is about the perfect viscosity aswell.

Blades on PP2822 hedge trimmer are locked and don't move

It may just be debris between the blades which have now become tight to move, try slackening the blade nuts one turn on each and try running the machine again, a spray of light oil may also help, if this does not work then you will need to open up the gearbox to see what has happened in here, it is a fairly simple system, so it has either broken a tooth off the gear or the bearing has seized.

Broken won't move

Check the teeth for something jamed. Has it set up for many years, maybe rusted bar. Does the motor run? If so maybe a cam gear broken or jam. Does the teeth on the bar move when removed from unit? Or does the motor run when bar removed? To many question to ask need more info.

Neuton cordless hedge trimmer sounds "rattly" and the blade doesn't go back and forth. the battery is good. could it be the motor?

Sounds like a problem I had, and it was the primary gear on the motor was stripped. So far no luck at finding the gear, but to replace the trimmer without battery would probably be cheaper.

Gh700 grasshog trimmer - round plastic gear drive broke in half - can I get a replacement or even a metal gear?

Same problem; GH700 with a stripped gear, inside the casing.
I wish places with replacement parts sell uncommonly broken pieces... I didn't have an account for commenting a request in that site.
If someone asked them, it could be available in a matter of time.

Blades on hedge trimmer stuck or not moving, engine runs fine.. what is the problem?? (echo trimmer)

There is a pin in the gear that helps the blade move when the engine is running. That pin may be sheared off and may require a new gear.

The cutting blade no longer moves, even when it is attached to the drive engine and the engine is running at high rpms. I think some kind of gear inside must be stripped out.

Mine was doing the same thing so I took the gear box cover off made sure it would still rotate then I packed it full of gear grease. That did the trick it runs perfect now. Mike

I need a copy of the owners maual for Black n Decker. When I turn it on the blades do not move but the gears inside are moving. Therefore it screams. Thanks.

Do you use WD40 on the blades between sessions

If you have been cutting resinious branches there is more than a chance that the blades are seized together.

You could try putting the blades into a bucket of very hot soapy water (Without a power line attached or the battery removed )

Leave them to soak for a couple of hours, take them out of the water and give them a try, if they run then dry the blades off with a hair dryer and apply some oil to the surfaces.

If they donT then you have stripped the teeth on the gearbox and you may as well dump them as it will be cheaper to buy a new machine than it is to get B&D to repair it

Gears on my Mcculloch Chester 510 Hedgetrimmer may

The problem was with a stripped gear on a mcculloch hedge trimmer. I chucked it on the scrap heap and am borrowing my father-in-law's machine until I have time to shop for a new trimmer. Problem solved, but sadly not owing to your service this time.
