Small line of static at the top of the screen

I bought a new Vizio 42' HDTV. I have satellite HD hook up. There is a thin line of static about 1/8 inch across the top of the screen on certain channels, mostly HD channels. Is it the TV, the sat or the HD?

I solved this by enlarging the picture size through setup, or the V-position.

SOURCE: Vizio 42 in TV LCD HDTV white line across to of

That white line (usually jagged) is actuallly part of the transmitted picture. However, you are not intended to see it because it is located in what is known as the 5% overscan area. Your TVs today are more than just cable ready... they are a versital, technology filled multimedia display. You can see that line because the screen size or wide mode you are using is intended for 1080p/24 signals. You have 0% overscan with this screen size setting. This allows you to see ALL of the picture, including portions of the picture the broadcaster did not intend for you to see. You can change your screen size using the Wide feature in the Setup menu. See pg.62 of your user manual for details and descriptions of the various wide modes.

Horizontal static-like stripes across the top 1/3 and bottom 1/2 of the screen. Please help!

You may want to check your tv display, cable box, satellite device. If you had an HD tv make sure they display or resolution setting is set to 16:9. If you have a standard def tv, make sure it's 4:3

Appears most probably to be a fault in the inbuilt power supply capacitors. Getting them changed once solved my problem. If you opt to change yourself then don't blame anyone if it renders your TV unusable!

static line at top is a problem with the broadcast input. many cable boxes and satellites create this because they dont quite fill the true resolution that the tv is capable of. the green splotches sound like overheating of the lcd lamps. id return it for a new one.
