Re: Sony 771 ... constant buzzing sound in background

Re: Sony 771

problem : buzzing sound no matter what the setting (ie. playing tape, cd, or radio...all buzz the same)

Tried fixes (obviously didn't work):
-blew air through inside
-plugged system into different unit
-cursed
-poked around

The buzz started all of a sudden. The system stills plays CD's, music, radio...but there is that constant buzzing.

Ideas?

Sounds like feedback. Check your speaker connections at the speaker and the main unit.

SOURCE: sony cmt-hp7 - broken

The unit will attempt an internal reset to start from a known position. If you are hearing mechanical noises, the unit is out of sequence and must be rebuilt. These are not the most straightforward units. If any portion of hte system fails the "startup" sequence, the entire unit will stop. Unfortunately, this may need to see a servicer.

well it depends on how you feel about opening your system. have you tried a cleaning cd? if not, then do that. If not, and u want to open it, then get some electronic cleaner spray (not sure how its called) and blow the laser clean. There are some resistors you can adjust, but thats getting very trick.

good luck

You said "...on reciever cd out in the audio box..." but it should the reciever IN that you connect to. Also is the BlueRay player capable of playing CD's ? When you press play on the sony remote, do the seconds start counting on the screen ? (ie: is it playing, but no sound is coming out?)

I play a tape in my Sony SL-5200 Betamax VCR. It plays normally for about 5-10 minutes and then the picture starts fluttering which lets out this loud buzz on the Hi-Fi audio track and cuts it out to mono....

It could be some kind of tracking problem. The cause could be dirt on the tape head, or perhaps something worn such as a drive belt etc. Check to see if it gets worse or better with the cassette nearly at the end of the tape or at the start of it. Indicating a tape tension problem, on the reels or drive.

Kareoke machine. cd fine . tape no sound

With audio problems if you look inside the unit, start the machine playing, then trace the wires from the tape head to the PC Board, then all you need do is touch the wires from the head with a small screwdriver. This should cause a buzz in either channel, if working right. Follow the circuit of the audio and keep probing. If you get Buzzing sounds near the output, and where the wires from the head enters, then there's something up with the head. But check for micro switches these can break and bend out of place so the sound is cut off.
If you get no buzz at where the head wires enter the PC Board, then there's a fault in the audio section.
As both channels are out you are looking at something common to both channels, for instance an IC.
