I hooked up the Toshiba dr-410 dvd recorder to my Directv DVR and television and tried to record shows to DVD from DVR playlist. Every time I hit record I got the message "This show is not allowed to be recorded". I spoke to Toshiba tech and they told meto talk to Directv about their digital encryption signal. Directv informed me that the digital encryption ends at the receiver so i should be able to record.
Can anyone help me figure this out? All I want to do is transfer my recorded DVR shows to DVD!

Are you trying to record cable programming with your DVD recorder? If so, you might want to try using component cable as HDMI does have a copy protection circuit that might be preventing your recorder from receiving the image. Just try to connect the cable box component (RED/GREEN/BLUE) cable to your DVD recorder. If that doesn't work, then try to change everything over to component cables. HDMI is a great cable to use but it the only required to display 1080p images and the only current source that uses 1080p is a bluray player. Everything else, such as your cable box and DVD recorder is 1080i and component cables are perfect for it.

After getting clarification from Fixya I can pass the links below to you to check yourself
Some players are harder than others to do this but you may want to try here or here
Toshiba's and JVC's are the harder ones to do
I use a Phillips myself as it is not only cheaper but has much more going for it than many of the higher end units. i throw anything at it and it just plays
The older the unit that harder it is to do the region free thing with.
I let my EX have the panasonic (big grin)
If you cant find a fix then look at the codes available for cheaper brands and how easy it is to do it before you purchase one.
Just a thought.
SOURCE: My dvr had a timing
Go to the menu button on your dvr look closely it wil tell you what button to use. Once there go back to setup and undo what you did. After this go into the menu where it says restore to factory settings and restore it to the factory settings. This will resolve your problem.

Just unplug the DVD cord from the power source and re-fix it after a minute or so. It's so simple. Please let me know if it works for u. [email protected]

I am having the same problem. We just switched over to Direct tv and now can not record any shows.
Same here. Just happened though. Worked fine up until this weekend (5/1/09) and now I get the message that can't record this program - E25.
