Not sure if This should be posted as a solution or "have same problem"so I apologize for the duplicate "reply"

    I have to elaborate........

According to the motherboard manual(s) ive referred to,2gig is the max memory with 2 x 1Gig DDR2s

There r only 2 memory slots on my motherboard.

If I remove one stick I will have 512 meg(1/2)

I can swap to the other slot and again 512meg(1/2)

    with both sticks.visa-versa......

The brand is "Crucial".com and when I run theyre "cpuid" program it recognizes them as 1 gig sticks in the 2 available slots??????

    But I have only 1 gig total(1/2)???

regardless of bus or memory speeds, that shoulnt affect the total amount of RAM should it????

Computer works fine othwise, but i (should?) have 2gig and theyres ony 1?!?!

    thx

IF THE SYSTEM SAYS YOU HAVE 1GB RAM THAN YOU HAVE 1 GIG OF RAM, EVEN THOU SOMEONE TOLD YOU YOU HAD 2-512MG=1GB.

HERE IS HOW I SEE WHAT YOU ARE SAYING YOU HAVE 2-DDR-2 1 GIG STICKS THAT MEAN IF 1 IS INSTALLED THAN YOU HAVE 1 GB AND IF YOU COULD GET 2 STICKS WORKING TOGETHER THAN YOU WOULD HAVE 2GB RAM.
1 CHIP SET = 1GB RAM
2 CHIP SET = 2GB RAM

YOU MOTHERBOARD MAY NOT ALLOW THAT MUCH RAM, OR WHAT I MEAN THE BIOS MAKE UP THE AMOUNT OF RAM.

TO RULE OUT ANY BAD CHIP SETS OR GOOD RAM OR BAD RAM.

TAKE THE PEACE OF RAM THAT IS WORKING OUT AND REPLACE IT WITH THE OTHER PEACE AND SEE IF IT WILL RUN.
IF IT WORKS THAN LEAVE THAT ONE IN PLACE AND INSTALL THE SECOND PEACE IN THE SECOND SLOT.
IF BOTH CHIP SET ARE GOOD THAN BOTH SHOULD WORK OKAY TOGETHER.
IF THERE IS A PROBLEM, IT MAYBE SOME DUST IN THE MEMORY LOTS
OR THE SLOT MAYBE DAMAGED.
OR
THE CHIP DESIGN LAYOUT MAYBE THE OPPOSITE SIDE, THIS MAY MEANS THE CHIPS MAY FACE EACH OTHER, OR FACE OUTWARD FROM EACH OTHER.

Ram compatibilty

Yes you can but the higher spec DDR2/800 RAM will run at at lower speed same as the DDR2/ 667 RAM.
When you install the DDR2/800 RAM and the BIOS only detects 1Gb of RAM then this RAM is not compatible with the 1st RAM module. In this case use RAM module that is the same make and speed as the original RAM module.

It sounds like you have laptop memory which is much shorter than standard ram. I would take it back and return it. You should have 240 pin ram for a desktop and 200 pin ram in laptop type devices.

Hello,

What os are your using? XP, Vista, Win 7?) Also, was this a new motherboard and what type of case are you using? Lastly, I would recommend you checking your BIOS and make sure there are no limits set on the memory cap. (Usually found in older system but check anyway.)

Good Luck.

My biostar P4M800 Pro-M7 only shows 1gig of ram, but i have 2gig... Wat could be the problem?

Are both chips identical ? if so

Take out the ram and replace it one stick at a time in the socket 0 or 1

If both sets of Ram work then check your instruction book on the motherboard and see what is the maximum ram it will take .

Get a copy of Memtest86+ from www.memtest.org
and run it on both chips , that will show if there is any errors on them.

RAM DDR2 PC 1300

DDR 2 will _not_ work the way it's supposed to in a DDR slot, if at all. If you want to see what memory your computer can use, go to crucial.com or similar website for a free scan of your computer. From the spec. sheet it looks like your machine takes a maximum of 2 sticks of 1 gig each (for a total of 2 gigs) DDR SDRAM, either 333 or 400MHz of memory

One of the ram isnt recognised???

This is likely a memory timing incompatibility. You can go into the BIOS settings of many motherboards and set the timing specifically for each RAM slot, but without knowing exactly which piece of RAM you have I can't tell you what to set it at. You could use the utility CPU Z, install one stick, run the utility and write down all the memory information, then install the other stick and write it down too. Then go into your BIOS and see if you can set all of your specifications to match the memory.

Of course if you could find someone to swap sticks with that would be easier. Some motherboards are more picky than others about which sticks they work well with, name brand manufacturers are more picky than aftermarket in general.
