My Samsung ML-4500 laser printer was originally used on my Windows/XP laptop with the driver as supplied on CD and all worked fine. I now have Windows/Vista laptop and I have downloaded the universal driver from Samsung site as that appear to be the one needed. Print starts OK, status shows as 'printing' and green 'data' light on printer flashes but nothing else happens. The printer works OK as the 'demo print' button proves. Printer was supplied with parallel to USB convertor cable which is still being used. So this is surely a driver problem but which driver can I download to fix it?

The answer is probably down to the usb port, they don't always like change, because you are trying to swap hardware in same port, they tend to want to stay with one or the other peice of hardware. If you have'nt got another spare USB port, which i assume you have'nt, invest in a 2 or 4 port USB hub(But make sure it's powered by a AC power lead and not just a usb powered hub, because some hardware will not be recognised e.g I Pods), this connects into your usb port and gives you 2 or 4 port more to use, and you won't need drivers for it. They are inexpensive and you simply plug it in. I think this will solve it for you
SOURCE: Can I print in Dos Programme with USB Printer
Assuming the printer can understand DOS coded printouts (which most should be able to), you can do it like this: Go to Control Panel | Printers | ML 2010 and share the printer. Then go to a command prompt Start | Run | type cmd Assuming that you share it with the share name "MYPRINTER" and the computer is called "MYCOMPUTER", then type NET USE LPT2: \\MYCOMPUTER\MYPRINTER /PERSISTENT:YES at a command prompt. Now you can print to LPT2: and the output will go to the USB-connected printer. To find your computer name, right click on the My Computer icon (either on your desktop or the start menu) and choose properties. The window that opens will have a Computer Name tab.

Unplug printer and un install software. Delete printer in printers folder. Restart pc. Install software first and then connect printer. Also make sure your usb drivers is correct.

I had the same problem two years ago and purchased the adaptor also .The port is correct. My adaptor never would work either. The correct answer, for me, was to purchase a Parallel port PCI card and install it. I am still using it to this day as both the paper and the ink ribbon on my pin printer is a lot less expensive for making copies that I don't need to be letter perfect.

Hi,
it seems to me that you might gotten the wrong driver install in your system.
error page - Position: )x42b (1067) System: h6fwaim_mono/xl_image Line: 132 Version: QPDL 5.04 04-25-2005
do a check on your OS version. Operating system. right click mycomputer icon -> properties.
download the correct version of driver from Samsung website again. uninstall the currect version and unplug the usb cable to the printer.
restart your system, install the downloaded correct version and plug in the usb cable to the printer. do a custom install to serach for the printer. if it does search the printer. it will show you. USB001. after install you will be prompt to do a test page. test on it to see it works.
if it does not work after downloading and install the driver. You might have a mainboad firmware corruption.
to run a firmware update is not easy it might course other major issue. only install by an trained Samsung Engineer.
Hope this Help :)
