SOURCE: A "friend" sold me this junk dell demension 8200 it worked 1 week, now screen stays black says to type password you cannot do anything then it says system haulted power down?

The best thing to do is to reinstall Windows on the computer so you have a clean system. The Windows label that has the product installation code also has the Windows version printed on this label.
My guess is Windows XP Pro. If you do not have this installation CD then I recommend you get a Recovery CD for your model Dell from the Dell WEB site.
You can download a recovery CD or the device drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Tag label is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where the specific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you select the Windows of the drivers for your Windows operating system. Click on this link to download the drivers: - http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen

Dell eDimension 8200 computer has started but monitor scren remains black

Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE,SATA

the leads from your (motherboard to your hard drive) make sure they have secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they might be faulty

if its a 40 pin flat ribbon type it will be the first to fail

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty

even something as small as a faulty electrical fan and its lead can cause you problems

computers need all power and data to continue through every working device and to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

make sure your graphics card is securely seated with no dust built up or in the socket

if you remove your graphics check the socket to make sure its dust free

restart your computer then reinstall it this should activate found new hardware wizard

hope this helps

KEYBOARD WILL NOT WORK ON DEMENSION 3000 UNABLE TO TYPE ANYTHING

Keyboard might be bad or you might have a virus that has hijacked the keyboard.

Make sure the keyboard is plugged into the computer good. Then reboot the computer into Safe Mode and see if the Keyboard works.
Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn itback on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFEMODE. Take the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. Safe Mode will lookdifferent to you, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, this isnormal.

My Dell Demension E310 has a battery showing on the motherboard and also my screen will not stay on. Does this mean the Cell battery needs replacement or what. For a while I was able to keep shutting off...

Sounds like your power supply is gone.

A local shop can easily test, generally for free if you buy a new one from them. I'm not talking big box stores.

When i turn my dimension 8200 on it will not boot i keep getting the black screen with the safe mode option but no matter option i choose it aslways comes back to the black screen

if you have the windows xp disk, boot from it by pressing F12 upon turning on your computer. press 'R' to choose recovery console. you might be asked which windows installation you want to start, just press 1. when you see the console, enter the command 'fixboot' without the quotes. then type exit to restart your computer. hope it helps.

I had a bad virus on my dell 8200. My friend took

Since your 'friend' took everything out of your hard drive you'll need a Windows CD (XP, VISTA). Without installing Windows back onto your system you're out of luck.

I would hope your friend has a copy of Windows he can use to restore your computer to a working order. If not, keep him as far away from your computer as possible!!

If you can't find a copy of Windows to install you'll have to purchase a copy at a retail store or perhaps online at TigerDirect.com or NewEgg.com.

Dell Dimension Desktop 8200

Dear Sir:
This could be due to bad hard drive or file system damage if the below steps doesn't work please contact the dell support for hard drive replacement if you computer is in warranty.

If this is the case, restart the computer to the Recovery Console, and then use the chkdsk /r command to repair the volume. After you repair the volume, check your hardware to isolate the cause of the file system damage.

To do this, follow these steps:
1. Start your computer by using the Windows startup disks, or with the Windows installation disk if your computer can start from the CD drive. 2. When the Welcome to Setup screen appears, press R to select the repair option. 3. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the Windows installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console. 4. Type the administrator password when you are prompted to do this.

Note If no administrator password exists, press ENTER. 5. At the command prompt, on the drive where Windows is installed, type chkdsk /r, and then press ENTER. 6. At the command prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER to restart your computer. If this procedure does not work, repeat it and use the fixboot command in step 5 instead of the chkdsk /r command.

Let me know if you need any further assistance and if you have a moment to accept and rate the solution I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,

Mohammed.
