It is simple ! on the dell 3000 series.
First install operating system.
second install chip set drivers
Third install
Sound
And then the rest as you want.
If you do not do it in this sequence it will not work
tizz the manor the drivers go in that matters,
So again...Op system...chip drivers..sound...
Do you get it noW
Format again and do it right
Thanks Steve

SOURCE: sound windows xp dimension 3000

Replaced hardrive in a Dimension 3000, installed Windows XP Professional and have no sound. I go to control panel and the Sounds and Audio devices are grayed out saying No audio device installed. I tried to install the driver from Dell and I receive a message during setup that the Audio driver does not suport your computer hardware. There is only one driver and it is the R94481.exe. I did a diagnostics and the sound passed the test for the 8 tones. Other than that, I have no sound.

My dell dimension 3000 makes cracking sounds when i play music

Check your speakers first. Plug the cable from your speakers into a cell phone, ipod or some other music device that has headphone port. If the speakers are crackling then, then you know it's the speakers. If not, then it's a computer issue in which case you might want to contact Dell.

Good luck!

Dell dimension 3000 showing the following LEDS on the back a-green, b-yellow, c-yellow, d-yellow, won't boot up.

if the Dell logo does not appear at all when you start the computer, unplug its power cord, press its power button for say 10 seconds to clear any power left to it. Next, try to disconnect all external devices connected to it, then remove the power and ide/sata cables to your hard drive and/or CD/DVD drives, remove all the memory and just reconnect 1 confimed working memory to the first memor slot. Remove any other cards like video card, or network cards, then remove and reconnect the power connection from the power supply to the motherboard. Reconnect the power cable and attempt to turn it on. If the back panel light code changes, try to re-connect the devices starting from the memory, then expansion cards and the storage devices one by one. After connecting each card or device, test the system to see which device may be at fault. If nothing changes, could be your power supply or mainboard and you may need to get the replacement for them. HOpe this lead you to the right direction in getting this solved. feel free to rate how helpful this information is. Thanks

During a recent thunderstorm, the power fluctuated and my dell dimension 3000 turned off. There was popping sound and now I cannot power on the computer. When I take off the side panel, I can see a green...

The popping sound is most likely your power supply or something on your system-board like a capacitor.
If the problem is only the power supply:
If you want to see if you can salvage it try just replacing the power supply. The part is around forty dollars. You can google "Dell Dimension 3000 250w power supply" to find a deal on a power supply. Here is a link on how to replace the power supply in that computer.

I had that happen to me once on my Sony Vio and had to re-install the original driver. That fixed my problem. That was 5 years ago, and I haven't had any sound issues since. Hope this helps...:)

Low sound

Go to Control panel and click on Sounds and Audio Devices, then click on Audio tab, then under Sound Playback click Volume. There you can adjust the sound for each device listed. If that does not solve the problem...it may just be your speakers.
