Epson stylus RX620 all in one makes a grating noise then announces "scanner error, blah blah blah". the print function still works, although the machine makes this terrible noise Eberle time it is turned on. I am using a Mac with OS 10.6. the problem started after downloading and using (got 3 scans) the recommended scanner driver from Epson. I had been using ArcSoft scanner driver but it stopped working.

Aren't you able to use the otion file/save as?

Generally, the 1st best troubleshooting step is to uninstall the printer drivers, unplug the usb cable then download and install the latest driver from the manufacturer's web site, then re-connect the printer when prompted to in the installation of the new driver.

Unless you forgot and tried to use it locked…then unlocked it after, it seems unlikely that changing the ink could directly affect anything related to the scanner. So especially if it still scans and now just makes more noise then before, we can reasonably say it isn’t a faulty locking mechanism and that the gears are probably not stripped, which would either stop it or not. So you’re looking at either something simple like the gear assembly being dry, shifted slightly, etc. or the safety by the lock that makes noise to tell you the device is locked is stuck somehow. The one can be tested by removing the little plastic safety that makes the noise when the scanner is turned on and locked; the other you might be able to test with some WD40 and see if it runs quieter.

If its E-90 error then there is a hardware problem with the printer already.

Turn off printer, open scanner cover. On the right handside of scanner glass there is a switch in which you can toggle to lock and unlock position. toggle it 3x and set it to unlock. turn on printer. you should be able to make use of printer now..
