SOURCE: water shut off sticks open

Make sure that the float in not touching the side of the bowl. You may oil the hinge on the float. Lastly you may turn off the water , open the valve and see if any of the internal parts are swollen or enlarged interfering with the final rising of the float, and closing of the valve.

SOURCE: American Standard toilet constantly runs

The rubber cork thst lifts when you press the handle is leaking by and causes the water level to drop below shut off level so it trys to maintain the the shut off level every minute or so. Replace the cork with one made with the red rubber. good luck

SOURCE: American Standard Cadet 3 - bowl water slowly drains

ok, I read through all the web sites and solutions for the Cadet3 bowl loosing all the water after 3-5 minutes of being flushed. After installing my own, I figured I didn't get a good seal with the wax ring, I must have misaligned it. So, I went out and bought a new wax ring, picked up the toilet, cleaned everything up and made absolutely sure it was seated right. No Joy, same thing the toilet bowl would loose all of it's water regardless of the tank adjustements. My vents were not clogged. so, about the time I am ready to take the toilet back I tried flushing one more time and water wouldn't go down so I plunged it several times and what ya know the toilet works normally now and retains water at the right level. While I am no expert, it appears to me that since there wasn't anything ever put in the toilet except for 2 small pieces of toilet paper that maybe part of the huge wax ring that came with it partially clogged the toilet causing a siphening effect? How else would the water level seep way down below the bottom of the top portion of the trap built into the toilet bowl (unless the toliet was defective)? So, it may not be your prroblem but before replacing the toilet, I would recommend a long hearty plung if your toilet bowl won't hold it's water.

Flow of water into american standard toilet tank is very slow and does not fill up to water mark

Adjust the level of the float, water level should be about 1/2" below top of overflow pipe. Slow filling can be due to a build up of calcium in fill vale, a partially blocked water valve, the washer many times gets deteriorated by the chlorine in the water, breaks up and clogs the fill line. Also many manufacturers (fluid-master in particular) place water restrictors inside the bottom of the fill tubes, which cause the water to fill much slower.

Porcher 6.0 Lpf / 1.6 toilet. Plumber said he

Try replacing the flapper, they are cheap and so long as the tank and or bowl are not cracked you can replace all of the internal parts and basically have a brand new toilet much cheaper then replacing the entire unit. Go down to your local hardware store and everything you need is in one simple kit with very simple instructions. Good Luck.

I have an American Stadard Toilet that is only 2 years old. The toilet will not stop running. Could you give me some trouble shooting ideas?

There's a lot of variety in the works in the toilet tank. Assuming this is not a pressure-assisted toilet-----First understand the three valves are: 1. The shutoff valve - on the supply line coming into the toilet tank. 2. The fill valve - inside the tank, opens with the float descends, closes when the tank fills up. 3. The flush valve - inside the tank on the bottom. Common old style is a flapper on a pivot. Yours may operate straight up and down rather than on a pivot.
Three very common problems are---- 1. The chain that connects the handle to lift the flush valve is getting caught, not allowing the flush valve to close. 2. There is problem with the flush valve being able to get a good seal when it closes - could be debris or misalignment. 3. The fill valve is not closing when the tank is full, could need adjustment or there is debris preventing the valve to seat. . Here's are some steps to diagnose---- close the shutoff valve. Wait a few minutes as you watch the level in the tank. If the water level decreases, you have problem with the flush valve. To confirm the fill valve as the problem, turn the shutoff valve back on. Lift up on the float that is supposed to turn off the fill valve. If it shuts off, you should be able to adjust it - most have a +/- plastic adjustment screw. But if raising the float by hand only slows it down, you have problem with the seating of the fill valve - which can sometimes be cleaned, but more often would need to be replaced.
I hope this is helpful. Thanks for using FixYa.

Toilet tank not filling up with enough water

By "tank ball" do you mean the fill valve that is connected to the water supply line or the flapper ball connected to the toilet handle?

Flapper will not go down

Troy, the flapper otherwise known as the flush valve is easily replaced. They are also very inexpensive. Sometimes they can become distorted due to the clorine in the water and won't operate in the same way they did when it was new. I bet this will fix your issue and save you money as well.
