Hello, I have a Whirlpool top loader washer (LSB6000PQ0) that fills up with water but will do nothing else. I don't hear anything, either. No motor humming, no clunking, no nothing!! It just fills up with water and that is it! I was told to try a new timer. I spent over $90 for a timer, and I still have the same problem.
The washer worked fine for a little over two years and then one day it filled up with water and that was it. I never heard any kind of loud noises or clunking coming from the washer. I never smelled any kind of "burning wires" smell, either. It just decided to stop working one day.
I would appreciate any suggestions that you would have. Thank you for your time!!
You probably closed the lid to hard and broke the switch that tells the machine that it is closed. So the machine thinks the lid is open and for saftey reasons will not operate. I had the same problem. You can buy a new switch for about $10 or you can simply cuts the wires for the switch and wire them together. If you do this be warned that the machine will never know if the lid is open or closed. The machine will assume that the lid is always closed. But it will work also.
More than likely it is your lid switch!

Most common is the lis switch, part # 8318084. You can test it with an ohmmeter. Available for $16.99 at timerking.com. Hope this helps!
285753A is the part number for the coupler that connects the motor to the transmission (gearcase that is where I'd start.

My Ultimate Care does the same thing. However before it started I would smell a hot electrical smell every once in a while. Lid switch was replaced. Didn't solve the problem. The top piece is loose. One time I hit it and the washer started....Hmmmm.
