The error PXE-E61: Media test failure usually means the hard diskhas failed or the hard disk needs re-seating or the disk controller is faulty. First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If this does not work then reboot and go to theBIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn'tdetect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Next - to determine if thehard drive is faulty, remove the hard drive and insert it into an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a workingcomputer's USB port. If this computer cannot see itas an external hard drive and you cannot open the various folders and files,this confirms the hard drive is faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

Hi Wevenett,
There are a number of possible reasons why your computer is showing you this error message. It would help much if you included the operating system it was running with and what happened prior to the error message. Was there any changes that you did or happened before this issue happened?
Since we do not have the information laid out, I will list a few troubleshooting steps that will help you isolate the issue and possibly lead to resolution.
1st point of failure:
Operating system corruption: This may be possible if the Master Boot Record of your hard drive has been corrupted. Unfortunately Toshiba does not distribute an operating system disk. They only provide recovery cd's. You will need to borrow an operating system disk same as what you have in your computer to be able to do the troubleshooting steps below.
Troubleshooting step:
a.) Turn your computer on and tap on F12 until you see the advanced boot options. b.) Use the arrow key of your keyboard to get to the option that refers to your optical drive (dvd drive) note: on some systems it will say onboard or usb cd rom drive, on others it will just say cd rom c.) Insert your operating system disk then press on the Enter/Return key. note: it will be asking you to press any key to boot from the cd. Make sure that you press any key as soon as you see the message or else you will need to start all over. d.) Let the operating system boot from the cd. e.) Once you are in the screen where it is asking you to install your operating system choose the repair option (press R). f.) The objective is to get to a DOS screen. For Windows XP, it is the WinRC or the recovery console. Follow the steps listed on the web address posted here. For Windows Vista and Win 7 follow the direction posted on this link until you see the Windows Recovery Environment. On this screen choose Command Prompt. g.) Once you are in the DOS mode, type fixmbr c: then press Enter. h.) Reboot your computer. Hopefully this fixes the Master Boor Record of your computer.

2nd point of failure:
Defective Hard drive: If the troubleshooting step above does not work, it is highly possible that the MBR of your hard drive is corrupted beyond Windows repair. This means you will need to replace the hard drive of your computer, though it is still possible to recover the information from it by using it as a data drive. But that is another topic. To verify this you will need to check the System Setup (BIOS) of your computer.
a.) Turn your computer on and tap on F1 b.) You will get to the BIOS screen note: mouse is not active on this screen c.) Use you right arrow key to get to the system configuration tab and then look for the option for your hard drive. It will have the Letters IDE on it. Use the arrow down key to get there. d.) Check if it finds your hard drive. If it does, unfortunately you will need to totally reformat your drive to fix it. If it does not, then definitely your hard drive is totally dead and you cannot recover the files from it anymore.
