SOURCE: CD drive casusing problems

Since the CD drive is not being recognized, here are my suggestions:
1-Reseat the CD drive. In other words, remove it from its docking bay and plug it back in.
2-If that doesn't work, reload the driver for the CD drive.
3-If that doesn't work, replace the drive.
4-If that doesn't do it, you probably need a new motherboard.

If you need any additional information, please feel free to ask. If this information has assisted you in the resolution of you problem, please return here to give my assistance an appropriate final rating.
Thanks you, and have a super day!

SOURCE: dvd/cds will not burn past 85%

Try burning at a slower speed and try +r if using - R or visa versa on the dvd disks. My better half burns all the disks here and this is what she reccomends.

SOURCE: Faced with following message/s:

Without an original OS installation disk, you are probably at an impasse as far as trying to repair the problem yourself. You might try this option to see if you might be able to get into the computer.

Try this first:

You can try to boot the operating system with the Last Known Good Configuration feature. This feature will allow you to undo any changes that caused problems in the CurrentControlSet registry key, which defines hardware and driver settings. The Last Known Good Configuration feature replaces the contents of the CurrentControlSet registry key with a backup copy that was last used to successfully start up the operating system.

To use the Last Known Good Configuration feature, first restart the computer by pressing [Ctrl][Alt][Delete]. When you see the message "Please select the operating system to start" or hear the single beep, immediately press [F8] to display the Windows Advanced Options menu. Select the Last Known Good Configuration item from the menu and press [Enter].

Keep in mind that you get only one shot with the Last Known Good Configuration feature. In other words, if it fails to revive your Windows XP on the first attempt, the backup copy is also corrupt.

Failing this, you will probably have to send / take the computer to a repair facility to get the machine back online. I fix this kind of issue on a regular basis.

My samsung Q45 notebook tells me to insert the windows installation disc and restart my computer. I have not got this, can anyone help?

First disconnect any external devices connected to the computer except the mouse and keyboard.

This error usually happens if the hard drive is not getting detected by the operating system or due to bad hard drive.

First check if all the physical connections to the computer are set correctly.
If it is a laptop remove the laptop battery, wait for 5 minutes and then connect back the battery, check if it works.

If the above step does not work then you will need to run CHKDSK tool to check if there are any bad sectors on the hard drive would suggest running chkdsk which would scan for any bad sectors on the hard drive and if those errors are repairable if would repair and if it cannot at the end of the chkdsk scan you would see a message "found one or more unrecoverable error on the hard drive" which means the hard drive is damaged.

If you have a Windows Vista installation disc, you need to restart (boot) your computer using the installation disc. If you do not restart your computer from the disc, the option to repair your computer will not appear.

1. Insert the installation disc.
2. Restart your computer.
Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the Lock button , and then click Restart.
3. If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.
Note: If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or DVD, check the information that came with your computer. You may need to change your computer's BIOS settings. For more information, see BIOS: frequently asked questions.
4. Choose your language settings, and then click Next.
5. Click Repair your computer.
6. Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
7. On the System Recovery Options menu, click command prompt and in the command prompt typechkdsk /f and wait till the scan is completed and later restart the computer and check what happens.

Important: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might be lost.

Hope this helps!

Please Help! My Samsung R610 Computer says Windows is Activated but it is not working. Microsoft have validated my product key number but clearly this is not working. Can you please help me?

Try booting with the windows disc, let the windows files load and when it is finished it will give a few options. Choose repair, then choose the listed windows installation...it will be the only one so highlight it and click next. Windows will scan itself for errors and repair if necessary, then it will reboot itself, when it does remove the disc, just dont hit any key when it flashes "hit any Key" on the screen the second time, the first time you want it to but that is the only time you do it. Windows should boot up and operate fine.

Laptop

A blue screen is an operating system error. this can be caused by either a corrupt operating system or a failed hard drive. What you will need to do is run a system repair with your recovery or operating system disc. If the repair doesn't take then reformat the hard drive and install a fresh operating system. If you have any issues during or after the format or install, then the hard drive has failed and will need replaced.
