Does it start when you prime it or does it not start at all? if you prime it and it runs until the prime burns off then won't start again, try priming it again. If it starts and runs until the prime burns off again then it is a carburetor issue. It isn't supplying the engine with fuel to run after the prime is gone

SOURCE: I have a Brigs&Straton 6.5 Quantum lawnmower will not stay running. I can keep it running by restricting the amount of air entering the carb with my finger (choking it) The mower will start if it

the problem is in your carb.,at the bottem of the carb. there is a bolt that threads in to the carb.pinch off the fuel line so that no fuel comes out after the fuel bowl is off the mower.now look into the bolt that you took off.there should be a hole oppisit the head of the bolt.there are also two holes that go through the sides.these holes are the fuel intake to the carb, the hole in the center is the fuel nozzle.most likely you have dirt blocking this hole and not letting the motor get enough fuel to run.thake some carb cleaner and spray it in the hole.take an air hose then blow the nozzle out.while you have the screw out take the bowl off and check to see if there is any water or dirt in the bowl.after cleaning.reinstall the bowl and start mower again.should be running ok now.if not let me know and i'll guide you through another fix.let me know if this helped or not................

SOURCE: Self-Propelled Model Starts, then dies after about 15 seconds

I posted same problem as this couple days ago. Took mower to shop. The governor spring (located just under the air filter) had come off. So glad it was something so minor!

SOURCE: won;t start

Hi, it is possible that even if you changed gas, assuming water was in the tank as your original problem, that some stayed in the bottom. If you pump the primer while it fires up and it helps to keep it running, you still have some water.

SOURCE: 4.5 hp Briggs& Stratton push mower will not run

You need to rebuild your carb. The diaphram in the carb has gotten hard and is no longer acting as a fuel pump to pump the fuel to the carb. Get a rebuild kit and a compressor (for compressed air) to blow out the jet passages. It is an medium to easy job, just watch the small parts. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hint: Before you remove your fuel/air jets, bottom them out first and count the number of turns it takes to bottom them out and mark it down for each fuel/air jet. When you go to reinstall the fuel/air jets bottom them out and then back them back out to the number of turns before removal. That way the fuel/air jets are set to the right number of turns when it was running right. Good Luck, I hope this helped Please rate me...Thanks

SOURCE: I can crank my murray gas lawn mower 6.5 quantum

Sounds like you will need to clean your carburetor.
Sometimes you can get by with priming it a few times, and letting it
run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets,
but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
If the mower is over a couple years old, then I also recommend that you
buy and install a new carburetor repair kit, because the diaphragm will
get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, count the
number of turns it takes to seat the jets from their original position.
That way when you go to put the jets back in, you know how many turns
they were in/out.
Please rate me, Thanks
Good Luck, I hope this helped

91 isuzu pick up sat for 2 years and now wont start

I\'d try 2 things. One, some, or many, motors and fuel pumps, even electric ones, need to be "primed".
You might try to figure out how to suck the fuel from the tank up to the motor somehow.
I do not necessarily mean using your mouth.
You could also take a rag and an air hose, and GENTLY blow air into the gas tank to "prime" the system.
Another thing is, is there some part of the engine where gasoline could have congealed or turned to gummy deposits preventing the gas flow?
This is why they suggest mowers and generators be run until they run out of gas before storage, to prevent gummy deposits caused by evaporated gas.
Be blessed.

Quantum xts 50 timing

Check the air gap between the coil and flywheel. Also the solid state trigger in the flywheel may be faulty.

This sounds like restricted fuel flow. Items suspect are pick up screen (in the tank), filter, hoses, and the carb itself.
You have to open it up to find out where the issue is.

Quantum XTS 50 keeps stalling, and needs to be primed again every time to start.

Try first as it is easy and 50% of the time is the problem Clean the small hole in the side of the hollow bolt that holds carb bowl on, located on the bottom of carb bowl with some carb cleaner if you have or just blow it out,

Haven't used our mulching lawn mower - Quantum xm 50 model 125802 for several years. Tried to start it but simply fires up with no trouble but stops straight away.It was w0orking perfectly when last used...

Since the engine was not used up for a very long time , ti will be good that you must first of all change the engine OIL. This is important as a poor oil pressure due to clogging of oil being not used for more than a year is not good for the engine as well as the oil pressure switch might cut off the ignition.
OIl must be changed for usage- like mileage - or time related as the lubrication property reduces.
Secondly you must clean up the fuel section, the tank, fuel filters.
Finally make a check on the ignition, clean the plugs and the trigger contacts/replace if the spark is low.
Since the engine fires up there can be only these factors to be checked. Run the engine for few hours before shutting it down..

I have fuel and a good spark, but will not start with out spraying starter fluid into carb.

sounds like your carburetor is plugged, or has lost its prime. As I need to know more, please state the brand of engine it has; briggs or tecumseh, and if briggs, is it a quantum (5 hp or greater with carb not attached to gas tank) or regular?(has the carburetor on top of the gas tank.)

Wont continue to run after prime and start

often the last ounce of gas in the tank has some crud in it. Get a can of carbeurator cleaner spray. Remove the air filter and squirt three short bursts of the cleaner spray into the air port and then start it. Keep giving it short bursts of carb. cleaner until it runs smoothly again.
