Heat pump is humming loud>

I have a 3 year old pool pump, waterway. I can hear the motor humming but the fan wont kick on. I pulled all hosed to make sure they were cleaned out. Any ideas why it would be froze up?

From your description it sounds like the magnetron has failed in this oven. That's the part the makes the microwaves to heat the food. It typically fails by shorting out and making a loud hum noise. It not usually worth fixing since the price of a replacement magnetron is almost as much as a new oven.

You may need a new microwave..however, the diode may be defective or the magnatron tube may need replacing,,The magnatron tube is only warranted for 5 years so it may be used up as the model is (10years)fairly old.

With the details you described, the high voltage diode might be shorted( usually HVR 1X). It is connected from the Capacitor and the chassis, or else the capacitor is the one at fault,but not common .

Sounds like a bad magnetron (the device that produces the microwaves) - if the microwave is over 6-8 years old, it's usually not worth fixing.

yes the start capasitor starts the fan motor and the contactor pulls together when the t-stat tells it to start and it has a spring in it that gets week , some brands of units have a delay in the outside units board to stop it from starting at the exact same time as the airhandler

when was last time furnace was serviced --air filter change burner area cleaned vacuumed the hum can be a few reasons ---fan bearing need service [ oiled ] fan bracket bushings damaged or loose --burner out of adjustment burning improper etc these are a few

When it hums, is it running? Or does it not run when it hums? I'm assuming it runs when you say you have to turn the therm off to get the noise off.. If it's humming and not running, you have big problemo friend..

a very subtle hum or buzz is normal and is the transformer that creates 24 volt control voltage continually. some are noisier than others . sometimes a tap or bending of the transformer will tweak the metal enough to make it quieter. they can also get loud if incoming voltage is not correct. incoming 120 volts on a furnace is not usually a problem but the transformers are usually wired to the available incoming 230 voltage or 208 voltage if it is a heat pump or electric heat. If it is powered by 230 or 208 volts as most heat pumps are ,then you need to verify which you have and connect the appropriate leads from the trans former to power . it tells you on the side of the transformer which to connect to 230 and which to connect to 208. tape or cap off any unused leads.since you have not mentioned any performance problems i assume the fan does come on when called for and that it is not the loud hum you hear. switching the fan switch at stat to on should bring the fan on right away. if it doesn't then you may hear a loud hum and then youll need to check the fan motor and capacitor. but it sounds like a noisey transformer from here.

It does not heat.

I already replaced the HV diode. That did not fix the problem

It still has a loud hum and no heat. I'm guessing the magnetron.

The unit is six years old. I did not purchase it, the unit came with my house.
