Any tricks to replacing the LVDS cable in Samsing LNS4051DX/XAA

Its easy but be sure the set is unplugged. The LVDS has little tabs that are on each side of the metal connection when you press in on the tabs the lvds cable slides right out of the Tcon and the other end does the same on the main board. To plug it back in press in the side tabs and then slide it squarely into the socket on the TCon and then release the pins when the connection is all the way in. 2_13_2013_1_58_03_pm.jpg

Today my 55" vizio screen popped and then turned red. I unpluged and restarted everything and now the audio is on, the chanels change, but the screen is completely read. some images are readable.

If this is a VO47LFHDTV20A TV set, the problem is most likely your LVDS(cable from the main board to the t-con)cable is faulty. When you turn the set on, do you have a red screen instead of the standard blue screen? Do you also have red tints on all images on all inputs? If this is the case, your LVDS cable is bad. If you are comfortable opening up your set, track down where the LVDS cable goes into the t-con board. Turn on the set, and wiggle the cable, if the red tinting goes away, you will need a LVDS cable, about $24 part.

Whats a LVDS cable

Low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) Allows very fast transfer of signal. Used in LCD, some plasma TV,s and Monitors. If the cable is bad it cause many image display issues similar to the pic. More info about T-con Control Boards and LVDS cable

Where is the reset button on my Acer Aspire 5100 BL51

A) There is no reset button. As with any computer that has Windows, press the CTRL key, ALT key, and DELete key, AT THE SAME TIME to restart the computer.
(Not shouting)

B) To restart, is to Reboot. Rebooting isn't going to help in this case.
(If it does it will be temporary)

You have a problem with the graphics chipset, or the Video Cable, or the Display Assembly.
Diagnose to see which one it is.

1) Laptop OFF, monitor OFF, attach a VGA monitor to the laptop.

Connect to the VGA port on the Back of the laptop.

[ It is named External display (VGA) port, by Acer.
This is an example of a VGA Cable, and a VGA port (Connector)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector ]

The external VGA monitor can be a CRT type (Looks like a small TV), or a flat LCD screen monitor that has a VGA cable.

2) Turn the monitor on. If a CRT type allow it to warm up.
3) Turn the laptop on.

By default the display should show on the external VGA monitor.
If not;
Press, and hold down on the Fn key, and at the same time tap once on the F5 key.

(Fn key is on the bottom row of keys on the Keyboard. Second key over from the Left.
F5 key is on the top row )

No display on the external VGA monitor?
There are at least 3 display options.

1) Internal monitor of laptop ONLY
2) Internal monitor of laptop AND external VGA monitor
3) External VGA monitor ONLY

You may have to tap more than once.
(Hold the Fn key down, and tap on the F5 key)

C) IF, the display does NOT show up on the external VGA monitor, you have a graphics chipset problem.

Chip and Chipset are slang terms for I.C.
Integrated Circuit,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_circuit

The graphics chipset's proper name is GPU. Graphics Processing Unit,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPU

The GPU for the Acer Aspire 5100 series of Notebook PC's, is an
ATI Radeon Xpress 1100.

It is soldered directly to the motherboard, therefore it is
Integrated Graphics. (NOT a Graphics adapter Card that is removable)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_ATI_Chipsets

(RS480M)

If the graphics chipset is bad, the easiest, and most cost effective solution, may be to simply replace the motherboard. More on this at the end of the solution.

D) IF, the display DOES show up on the external VGA monitor, the problem is the Video Cable, or in the Display Assembly.

Video Cable:
The Video Cable is termed LVDS Cable by Acer.
Low-Voltage Differential Signaling Cable.

1) Connections:
The Middle Cover is the thin strip of plastic that has the LED indicator lights, and Power On button in it, located above the Keyboard.

Removing this cover allows access to the motherboard side, of the LVDS Cable.

Check this connection to make sure it is tight.

The LVDS Cable also connects to the Back of the LCD screen.
The Display Assembly must be partially disassembled, in order to access this connection.
Check this connection to make sure it is tight.

2) Damage:
With the Middle Cover removed observe the motherboard side of the LVDS Cable, and it's sheath. (Outside cover of the cable)

See if there is any obvious signs of damage. The LVDS cable routes under the left Hinge. Normal opening, and closing of the laptop may damage the sheath.

If the sheath if the LVDS Cable shows damage, the tiny, thin wires inside the cable may be damaged also. (Stretched/Broken)

If damage is shown the LVDS Cable should be removed, and a continuity test of the wires in the cable, should be performed with a multimeter.

This may be accomplished with an economical multimeter, set to Ohm's. (Symbol is the Omega symbol)
An economical multimeter can be purchased for around $8 to $12.
Analog, or digital is fine.

Or you could take the cable to a computer repair shop, and have them test it for you.

http://www.cdsparts.com/p-2292-new-acer-aspire-one-532h-ao532h-nav50-led-lcd-cable-50sas02005.aspx

Display Assembly:
The Display Assembly (LCD Module) consists of the;

1) The LCD Bezel:
The thin plastic frame that is in front of the LCD screen, and surrounds the LCD screen. Resembles a picture frame.

2) Screen Inverter:

3) LCD Panel Brackets:
Metal brackets that attach to the sides of the LCD Panel's screen frame.

(Screen Frame; metal frame that surrounds the LCD screen. The LCD screen is composed of layers, and the metal screen frame holds them in place)
Also includes the Hinges.

4) Backlight:
For the Acer Aspire 5100 series of Notebook PC's, the Backlight is a CCFL. Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp

5) LCD Screen:

6) LCD Module Cover:
The top cover of the laptop

Primer:
An LCD screen does not produce light. It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight can be a CCFL, or a series of LED lights.
As stated the Aspire 5100 series uses a CCFL.

A CCFL is a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

http://www.laptopz.com/acer-aspire-5100-laptop-lcd-ccfl-backlight-lamp-154-wxga-p-10364.html

[ Average size is 2mm Thick x 334mm Long.
In inches it is approximately a little larger than 1/16th of an inch Thick, and a little over 13 inches Long.

It is located INSIDE the Screen Frame, and next to the LCD panel's layers. The Screen Frame comes apart by removing screws. The side of the Screen Frame, that the Backlight is mounted next to, is removed to access the Backlight.

HOWEVER, the LCD screen (Panel) is composed of layers. These layers are set in a specific pattern, and are held there by the Screen Frame.

If the correct method is Not used when replacing a Backlight, there could be a chance the screen layers of the LCD screen may move, and this would render the LCD screen unusable ]

A qualified professional is called on to perform this repair.

The Screen Inverter converts power (Electricity) from the laptop, for the Backlight, and LCD screen.

90 PERCENT OF THE TIME the fault is a bad Inverter.

Testing a screen inverter is done with a sensitive multimeter. A tool most do not have. Or a known to be good compatible screen Inverter is used as a test tool.

Due to this, the economical cost of a screen Inverter, and ease of replacing, the screen Inverter is usually replaced.

IF, this does not repair the problem, then the problem is a bad LCD screen.

More information in a Comment.

My laptop lg x130 stuck for almost a month when i turn on it the screen has no display

The display of your laptop is one of its most integral components, and if it is exhibiting problems, it is one of the most frustrating issues you can experience as a computer owner. A display can experience a variety of issues, from the mildly annoying flickering of a screen, to it not powering on at all. Identifying the problem is the first step towards assessing whether it can be fixed, or if it is time to get a new computer.

  1. Brightness
    • If the brightness of your screen is intermittent, or is flickering, it is likely that the inverter is broken. The inverter is a small board that controls the brightness of your screen. It plugs into the display and the motherboard, or the main brain of your computer. Try a new inverter board, which you can get from your computer manufacturer, or from a computer supply store, by taking out the inverter from your display casing.
    Garbled Video
    • If there is garbled video on your screen, it may mean that the low-voltage differential signaling cable, also called an LVDS cable, has begun to malfunction, or that the graphics card is failing. To check your LVDS cable, open up the computer and unplug the LVDS, which will be running from the motherboard up into your display. Plug the LVDS cable back in and with the computer open, turn the computer on and check the graphics. If it continues, you may need to take the display out of its casing and unplug the LVDS from the back of the screen. If the graphics issue continues, try another graphics card. If the new graphics card is in, and there are still graphics issues, the LVDS will need to be replaced.
    No Video
    • If there is no video on the screen of your laptop, it can mean one of two problems: that the display has completely given out, or the logic board is not supplying any video to the screen. If there is no video, try moving the screen forward to back several times to see if video appears momentarily. If so, there may be a loose connection. If no video comes on, hook up an external monitor to the computer and see if any video appears. If video does appear, it is likely the screen has died. If there is no video, your graphics card has failed. Depending on the logic board holding the graphics card, you will either have to replace the graphics card, or the whole logic board.
I hope you find it very helpful. Best regards.

Satellite L675D-S7040 white screen is all i can get

If you can find a monitor to connect to and know how to tell the PC to send a signal to it (ie, on a dell it is Function F8) you can determine if it is your Video card or your screen that has failed.

I do not know any function the tells a computer to give a white screen.

Sorry!

Rello i have a acer aspite 5580 laptop that dont have monitor display but i heard the start up tone. and when i use the vga monitor it display.. what is the problem of my laptop that its monitor dont...

There are some possible options, look close to the lcd screen with a light;
1. If you see something on the screen, but it's very dim, then you will have to replace the CCFL/Inverter of your laptop. The backlight screen would be gone bad, and you will have to replace first the inverter board-a circuit which controls the backlight-. If this doesnt help, then your problem would be related to the inverter cable or the CCFL tube.
2. If you cannot see nothing on screen, then the problem would be related to the LVDS video output. It could happen that the video output inside the laptop don't work property, but external video does work good. This is the worst situation, because you will have to replace the motherboard.
