I presume there are three angles that the lid can assume: 0-degrees (horizontal), 45-degrees, & 90-degrees (vertical). I can raise the lid from 0-degrees through 45-degrees to 90-degrees. I can then lower the lid back down to 45-degrees, but not down to 0-degrees. Sliding the gray lock/unlock switch, in the lower right corner of the lid, to the unlock position does not seem to make any difference. What am I doing that is incorrect? Thanks.

I have had the sam problem on 2 of the same scanners. Open the scanner cover and slide the transparency unit transportation lock to the unlocked position. Then close the scanner cover.Power it on and there you go.Somehow this little switch can get moved and there is the grinding noise and not working.

The first item to repair/replace is the power on switch on the scanner. Unless the power goes inside the scanner and it shows some signs of life, nothing can be said/done. I feel it is the power on switch which need replacement. Anything else is later on.
