It seems that many people think that sending a camera back to the manufacturer is helpful. Most of us want help to fix it ourselves. If it is under warranty most know enough to send it back. If it is out of warranty the repair cost for most problems is more then it cost to replace it.
Download service manual and diognose problem its easy like ABC you might need a new CCD or another part has failed and has to be replaced just order part online its posted to you and fix it your self school stuff easy peezy this is how everybody does it it will say on service page why the camera has no image and flashes on screen messedges you can always put it on ebay hey dont forget to throw in service manual as well
check to see if part of the lens cap snapped off into one of the connection areas or if the lens cap sensor is a button that is stuck down. If not, there may be damage to the electrical and or optical hardware behind the lens.
This could be a lens cap sensor error. Try sending it to PhotoTech Repair Service in NYC. They are Nikon authorized, and can do the repair under warranty if you still have it. Also if you join they're facebook page, they will give you a 10% discount.
Here is the facebook page link, it has everything you need to send it in.
