The ice dispenser no longer operates and in the dark of night the light turns on and the dispenser flapper starts flapping wildly on its own adn making a loud grunting noise. Do we need an exorcist

Ices dispenser stop dispensing, but will automatically turn on in the nighttime hours - light and the flapper flapping. No ice comes out, but the thing operates loudly and obnoxiously. In the meantime the back of the freezer has a build up of ice and no longer cools the refrigerator side or the freezer side.

Check your fan next to the compressor if it's running ,also check your evaporator fan if it's running.
If both fans are running and you still have ice built-up then you may have a refrigerant leak

SOURCE: Ice dispenser appearing to get stuck in the open

The noise is probably the solenoid which operates the door or the one that switches it from cube to crushed ice. Remove the dispenser cover by gently prying starting at the bottom going round and round a little at a time to prevent from breaking it. When it's off the screws will be exposed to access the other components.
Here's a diagram of the dispenser which may help.

SOURCE: Maytag Ice20 refrigerator

Thanks, Solution #3, for the phone number ((800) 688-9900)! We, too, have the Ice2O refrigerator, and the HV Board started the disco light show last night. Followed instructions above to disable it, which temporarily solved the problem. Was on the phone with Maytag (Whirlpool?) this AM, and their initial response was that they wouldn't cover anything since we are out of warranty. I had to be extremely firm with my expectation that all parts and labor would be covered. Sent the rep back to her supervisor several times until they agreed to cover both. If you find yourself in a similar situation, don't give up until everything is covered. This is a design issue that should NOT be impacted by an expired warranty!

SOURCE: icemaker makes a loud buzzing noise when

If it just buzzes & doesn't actually dispense any ice, you may have a broken dispenser door. We have just had to replace ours for the same reason. We have a Maytag MSD2732GR side-by-side

Kristen,
Thank you for giving more information. I believe you will need to replace the flapper on the ice dispenser. I based this answer on the following: you mentioned when the door is held open ice comes out. Let me know if this helps. As you may know, there are several different things that could cause this issue, but this is the most common one of them. Here is a how to video on this type of repair:

Ice will not dispence thru door.

Without knowing the brand and model # I can offer the most common solution.

On most "pass the ice through the door" models there is a flapper door where the ice dispenses. The spring which holds this door closed when you are not dispensing ice becomes weak allowing the flap to stay open jsut a bit. This open space will create an ice dam in teh dispenser thus not allowing the ice to dispense. The repair is generally made by replacing the flap assembly.

All the best.

Frost buildup inside freezer door at ice dispenser

you are still not getting a seal on that flap. It sounds as if it may be warped. THe reason the frost and ice is building up is due to the flap not sealing there isn't any other reson for your problem. Good luck on your repairs

GE mod #gsh22kgmb ww. port thru which ice exits

Try cleaning the edges of the flap and the ice chute as well. Once you've done that, check to see if the pivot rod is fully engaged at end side, as having it out of position could be causing it to "hang up" and not fully close.

If the rod has been knocked out of position, reposition it with your hands then you can lightly lube each end at the pivot points, with a food grade silicon lubricating spray. Use ONLY a food grade lubricant so you don't end up getting nasty tasting ice cubes or contaminating the cubes as they pass thru the chute and flap.

If that doesn't resolve the problem, you'll need to remove the chute & flap assembly from the dispenser section of the door and check for the return spring engagement, as it may have become disconnected and as a result, isn't closing the flap fully, as it should.

To do this, you'll need to remove the trim bezel around the dispenser section with a plastic putty knive (to avoid scratching the trim). be very careful when prying the bezel, do it VERY carefully so as not to snap/break the trim piece. Once you have that removed, you can see and get at the retaining screw(s) that hold the chute & flap assembly on the door panel.

Check the line drawing attached for proper part placement of the spring (part #63) and for seeing how your particular dispenser is attached to the freezer door.

Ice dispenser is not operating. will dispense ice occasionally. noticed the light in the dispenser opening gets dim. Water is dispensing normally.

When it doesn't dispense , do you hear the auger turning ? If so , then the dispensor flap is not opening completely . This is caused by a rusted plunger in the solenoid which opens the flap . If you use crushed ice often , then could be a build up in the ice shoot which has to be cleaned regularly .
