My M7310 won't forward a call to the next open line but gives a busy signal

We have a two line rotary phone. Lately if one line is in use an incoming call should ring the next open line but instead gives a busy signal.

Hard to answer because your problem description does not match the part.
Nortel Meridian M7208 Corded Phone is a digital phone which works off a phone system. Also note that the carrier controls the rollover, not the phone or its system.

Once you have more/proper details maybe you can be helped.

SOURCE: line 4 doesn't ring in coming call

The way 4 line phones work is that you need 4 lines on every jack that is connected to your phone.
You see the light probably because one of the phones has line conected and you see line appearance.

SOURCE: How to add a second lint to Nortel Phone System???

So what, exactly, is your question? Physically, you order a second line in a "hunt" group, and plug or wire it into the system cabinet. By default, a Nortel system has 2 lines already programmed to the sets, but you will probably need to activate the second line appearance in programming.

I have put a main greeting on my Norstar M7310 phone for all 5 incoming lines, however one of our incoming lines has grabbed a personal message form another extension and callers get that personal message...

You need to know what extension is causing the forward directly to voice mail. Chances are that this extension has ringing lines programmed to it and the forward on busy is to voice mail. ANY PHONE THAT HAS RINGING LINES SHOULD NOT BE SET TO FORWARD ON BUSY. If they happen to be on the phone when a call comes in it will go straight to their personal mailbox.

Caller ID not working on Norstar terminal using line dedicated to fax and phone

You must have latest software to have Caller ID
You must have a Caller ID line card
Caller ID must be programmed on the phone to allow it
Caller ID signal from carrier is sent between 1st and 2nd call

FYI on the fax: Analog ports (ATA's) on the Norstar system do not show Caller ID, instead you would need to use a line share device that supports caller id such as the STICK.

How do you reset the phone system... it sound like a rotary dial when Im calling out

If it's rotary then your system was reset already.
When a system defaults it will assign 2 lines to all phones and give Jan 1 as the date.

Change from Rotary to Touch tone is done under Config/Lines/Data

If unsure who to program or navigate or config password then call in a vendor/tech.

Arrows indicate the line is in use and it is not in use. How do I clear the line?

It depends on where the fault is coming from. I've seen this when there is a problem with the phone line coming in. First try a different phone (wired is best) and listen for a signal. (I use an old rotary phone for diagnosis since it has no extra features to get confused.)

Take a phone to where the line comes in and open the box, if it has an RJ-11 test jack see if you get an in use signal as well. Call your phone company if this is the case. If it is an older system, you may need to get a special tester to do the test (either call the phone company to send someone out or Cyberguys.com sells them.) Unfortunately, not all technicians properly check for the fault.

If it is an inside wiring issue, you need to look for broken or damaged wires. If there was a recent lightning strike, check any line noise filters.

I hope this helps.

I can't make a call or receive calls, I tried unplugging it several times and all the lights starts blinking!! When I try to dial a button, it gives me a busy signal.

You are probably trying to dial out on an intercom button. This will give you a busy every time. You may have to dial 9 to get out.

To test your phone, 1st find out what your intercom number is (press feature*0 and then press the intercom button) Your display will show you the intercom number of your telephone. Then try to make an in house intercom call to another working telephone. If that works have them call you back.

The next step is to find out if you have any lines programmed to your phone. (press "feature*0) and then each button on your phone. The display will show you what is programmed on that button. If you have any that say "001 Line001" or such those are the outside lines to dial out on. Hope this helps.

Multi line system and phone still rings while I'm on another line

courtney,

Unfortunately if the receptionist is using priority call (f69) there's not much you can do. Priority call is an administrator programmed function that overrides when your on a call and when the set is in do not disturb. Maybe bribing the receptionist might be in order.

Call forwarding for NorStar m7310

You have to know how to get into programming, and it depends on the type of telephone lines you have... if you have regular analog lines, on a out bound call transfer there is going to be line degragation. Meaning that the outgoing call is not going to be of the best quality.

Secondly, you have to see how many telephone lines you have, if you have 3 analog trunks, with a call forwarding to a cell phone, you will be using up 2 lines... 1 incoming and 1 outgoing to your cell. This leaves 1 trunk for incoming or outgoing callers.

busy signal can mean another phone on your line is till connected. remove each phone one by one till the line is open, this can be also a redial on a phone activating by itself, or if you have forward messaging activated it can do this as well if it stuck on.
