i have 20 machine's ,
Motherboard M2A-VM
Athlon64 x2 5200+
RAM Kingston DDR2 800 2Gb
320Gb HDD Hitachi
Ati Radeon 3850
and all machine's have the same problem, random reboot!!!
BIOS and Drivers are up to date, OS is Windows XP SP3
Please HELP
i also have the same problem i bought 8nos. asus m2a-vm mobo. 1 of them cannot boot at all. 4 of them acting very unstable. sometimes random boot and always scandisk for inconsistency at every boot. if no scandisk, the time to boot to xp around 5min. i experience slow pc performance in xp.eg.even to open 'my computer' also take some time. 3 of them run fine but not quite ok becoz sometime the mouse pointer freeze for 2-3sec.(not a mouse problem). so i dont want to touch these 3 but i concentrate more on the other 4(very unstable). originally the spec are: asus m2a-vm sempron 3000+ advance module 533mhz 512mb ram seagate barracuda 80g hdd
i swap 1 by 1 with my other pc athlonx2 4000+ kingston 667mhz 1gb ram (in asus QVL) western digital caviar 80g hdd but still the problem exist.
all this component running fine on my other mobo biostar ta690g biostar nf1s abit nf-m2s pc chip

There is no windows xp sp3.all sp3 are made by hackers which used to hack the systems easily.so please change ur operating system and also uncheck the My computer(right click)->properties->advanced->startup and recovery,uncheck the automatically restary. ur problem may be solved.

If the new Drive is setup on a different channel than the First HDD and CD then it should be set to Master. In the Bios you probably need to activate the second SATA channel so the Auto Detect Function can work. You also need to check that the MB can support a drive that size. Not all MB will support an HDD of that size. Aside from the Obvious of checking all your cable connection to insure that they are all solid the only other thing I would recommend is that you switch the CD and new HDD positions. Put both HD's on the same SATA channel and the CD on the Separate channel. This would require making 1 HD a Master and the other a Slave and changing the CD to a Master since it will have it's own Channel. Second, try remove all but the New HDD from the system. Set the New HDD up as the only HDD and see if the BIOS will see and allow you to select it. If it will not there is a problem either with the size of the HD or with the HD itself.
You could put either of the graphics you mention in that motherboard providing you get the PCI-Express versions of them.
The motherboard will support a DDR3 structured graphics card in all cases at that is determined by the card not the motherboard as you get specific drivers for them which come included with the card or you can download the latest drivers from ATI or nVidia's support websites.
That motherboard will also support a gigabyte plus graphics card.
First enable you onboard video the connect your monitor to it. Insert you ATi video card in the mother board. Boot up. Install the ATi driver. Shutdown. Trasfer the monito to ATi video card. Then enjoy with you new vedeo card!
HI there. There are loads of makers of memory and graphics cards out there to choose from. For the ram i would recommend Corsair or Kingston, you can get this ram as a matching pair so the both run at the same speed, the best ram to get is DDR 400. As for the graphics card, i recommend ATI radeon X1650 Pro 512MB graphics card. These upgrades will make your machine purr like a kitten with an excellent gaming experience.
did you uninstall driver of the previous graphics card you had on there ?
if not that may be it
also card may be overheating make sure it has enough ventilation. Also check and make sure that any wires aren't touching or preventing the fan from spinning
or you may need more ram or change/update bios & settings
well this problem is not new to me..and unfortunatelly I had the same problem on 2 different mainboards,both by asus. I dont know to explain exactly to you which part of the mainboard is damaged,because this can be differnet from case to case(like damaged overheated condensors,or condensors put wrong +/- from factory or the chipset has problems or rests of metal glue on the back of the board making some short circuit)..so I cant tell exactly where to look..but..more than sure it is the mainboard. I remember I used to have this problem in office..and like an irony...it worked fine in games.. well my conclusion and advice to is to go back to the seller to ask a new one if this is in guarantee..oor buy a new one if you can..because youll never get to aa end with this. however you may still try one last thins..try to make a bios update. sometimes,like 40% of cases it works. because there is incopatibility in the board bios and the new developed application and so on.. try this to and if you cant get a positive result..get another new one for the bios update get into the asus oficial site ,find your model there,download the new bios version,make a bootable cd and in DOS mode re write the bios. take care this is a delicate job. good luck Amanda and please let me know if I can do more.. bye bye
