The HP Pavilion dv9500 is one of the Pavilion dv9000 series of Notebook PC's.

My sound cuts in and out

I'm not sure I understood correclty, but it sounds like you're listening to something on the web. If this is the case, than it mens that the connection is to slow and is interrupted. I would like to request you to listen to audio files on your computer, let's say any MP3 music file, and open it with the Windows Media Player installed on your computer. If it works fine, than there's nothing wrong with the computer.

No audio file will play on WMP, no dvd or audio disk will play...

Windows Media Player cannot play several files in the playlist. This might be caused by one or more problems.
To find information about the specific problems, click the Now Playing tab, and then click the blue or red icon next to each file in the List pane.
In some cases, you might encounter this error message if there is a problem with your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller. For example:
  • Your sound device requires an updated driver. To determine if an updated driver is available, see Windows Update or see the sound device manufacturer's Web site.
  • Your sound device is not functioning properly. To troubleshoot the problem, see Windows Help and Support or refer to your sound device's documentation.
  • You do not have a sound device installed on your computer. Install a sound device, and then try to play the file again
