Need a thorough explaniation on how to fix this problem on my IBM Thinkpad R50p laptop it just says pxe-e61 media test failure check cable pxe-mof exiting intel boot agent operating systerm not found

Go into SETUP (F2, DEL, Cntl-S or somesuch at boot time - or hold F1 key down and force and error and then change your BOOT order to CDROM, HDD. It is Currently NETWORK, CDROM, HDD or the like.

PXE is Network directed bootup, and your LAN connection is waiting or the proper code or instruction or server. You need to turn that off, and BIOS SETUP is where to do it ;-)

I have three kids with the same Acer Aspire 3680-2681. All in over a year have had this. The first sat til we gave up and just tore apart. Put back together, it worked, better. Nothing done. The second, a couple months later, we just took out the hard drive, made sure it was in the correct and full way in, and it worked. This week, the third, same problem, same solution, Took out the hard drive, put it back in snuggly and it worked. It has two screws that SEEM to hold it in place but it does slip out. BEFORE you do all these other ms-dos things and other crazy time consuming file losing pictures forever gone things, try this, and bring a can of compressed air, get the dog hair and dust out while you are there.
It seems to be a small engineering thing with the screw placement and holding of the thing securely in my humble opinion.

If you get that error, it means that the laptop was trying to load Windows over a network - which is only used in Corporate setups.

Try going into setup (usually pressing Del, or one of the "F" keys as soon as it turns on), and checking if it's detecting your hard drive.

If it is detecting your hard drive, check the boot order - it's possible that the computer is set to try to turn on from a network before it tries to turn on from the hard drive inside - if that's the case, change the order.

From that error message, it looks like you either have the wrong hard drive connected to the main hard drive SATA slot (if you're using SATA cables) or your operating system was corrupted. Unfortunately, if your operating system is corrupted, you will need an external device or operating system CD. If this is a laptop, the news is leaning towards needing a reformat, especially if the laptop already came with an operating system installed.

looks like it's unable to find the harddrive to boot from. It's trying to boot from a network location now.
Try entering the bios and see if you have an option to run a scan on the harddrive
Also check the boot options - make sure that it starts from the harddrive BEFORE it tries to boot from network.
