"Interface Disconnected" msg when using both USB ports on laptop
I have a Mac G4 Powerbook running Mac OSX 10.4.11. I have a M-Audio MBox 2 for recording DJ sets to ProTools.
I had never had any issues running Serato and my Audio interface simultaneously until recently.
Now, my laptop will not recognize that the Serato USB cable is plugged in if the MBox USB cable is also plugged into the second USB port on the other side of the laptop. If I plug in Serato by itself, it works fine, but the minute I plug anything else, even my printer, into the second port, I get the "Interface Disconnected" msg, a blue blinking light on the back of the interface, and a simultaneous popping sound in my speakers.
I thought that maybe my computer was not providing enough juice for the both USB connections, so I purchased a 9v DC 300 MA AC adaptor for the Serato interface and tried that, figuring if the Serato interface was getting its power from elsewhere, it would resolve the problem. This didn't work.
Please help, as I need to be able to run Serato and other things, namely my MBox, at the same time!!
Thanks
You have to hook up the SL1 Box or the 57SL mixer and then install the drivers. If you are not hooked up to either of these it will say 'Interface Disconnected' or 'Soundcard Not Found'.

Hi Bobby You will need to get an OS X installation DVD. Try eBay.Don't go for anything lower than 10.4 (Tiger)10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard) should run fine on this machine.Don't bother with 10.7 or 10.8
1. Obtain a Mac OSX install disc (buy one from apple or try Ebay)
2. Insert the disc then click on the "Install Mac OS" icon. Then click the restart button.
3. DONT INSTALL! Just click through enough of the windows to get to the regular set of choices on the menu bar. One of those choices is UTILITIES and one of the choices there is RESET PASSWORD.
Simple, but you should know that anyone with a Mac OSX install disc can gain access to your computer.
No, because that model printer is just rubbish. Throw the thing out and purchase a laser Brother HL-2170 and it will work just splendid with the Apple PowerBook G4.
The flashing question mark means that the computer can't find an OS. If the computer previously was working, start up from the OSX disc and run 'Disc Utility' from the 'Utilities' menu in the top toolbar. Run 'First Aid' to check and repair any errors. If the computer still can't find an OS then you will need to re-install OSX.
How often? Can you make it happen on demand?
Acquire any other USB keyboard, and plug it into a USB port on your PowerBook. Use this keyboard for a while. If you don't see the problem, then I suspect some sort of short in your keyboard cable, or perhaps a spill in the keyboard itself.
PowerBook G4 keyboards are very easily replaced, without opening up the laptop itself.
unfortunately any pro tools application below version 7.4.2 is not compatible with leopard and I don't think you can use mbox 1 with the universal mac I may be wrong but I wanna say I tried a while back and even garageband wouldn't find it anymore but you can check for sure by going to the applications folder then open the utilities folder in there is an application called "Audio Midi Setup" and you can select the mbox in there if you see it but if not there is no patch or driver that I know of to get it working unless you upgrade pro tools which if you do upgrade I suggest getting mbox 2 and getting LE with it
it could be this mbox thing isnt compatible with intel chiped macs. did you check their website for minimum requirement and compatibility? any of your friends have the same laptop of yours and theirs is working?
did you google "macbook pro not working mbox 1" for forums that relate to you
