Function Selector Bypasses Input Sources

This is a recent development in my Sony STR-DA90ESG.

When the function selector only works with Video 1 - 3, LD / DVD. The selector bypasses Tape, DAT / MD, CD, Tuner & Phono. Also, the Selector lights up both TV / DBS & Tuner simultaneously.

Thanks in advance for any clues.

Hopefully this post isn't too late... That receiver has the ability to disable certain inputs. The easiest thing to try is to do a factory reset.
1. Turn off the receiver
2. Hold down DISPLAY and PANEL UP/DOWN buttons and press power.
3. All Clear should appear on the screen.

Unfortunately, this clears out all of the other settings on your unit. It should, however, re-enable the inputs.

Let me know if this helps!

Wiz sony

The receiver has detected a problem in the final output stage and has shutdown to prevent further damage to either the amp or the speakers. The most common cause of this is shorted output transistors. Figure about $15-$30 for parts plus the local labor rate.

Digital optical from DVD player produces no audio

Hi, It sounds like your receiver is still looking for audio on the coaxial connection, rather than the optical.

1. Make sure the optical connection is between your DVD player and the LD/DVD Optical In on the back of your receiver.
2. If you have a monitor connected to the receiver to show the on-screen display, click Setup from the main menu, click Input Mode, then, next to LD/DVD choose Optical. It may be set to coaxial, analog or auto.

Alternatively, choose the input source on the front of your receiver (LD/DVD), then press Input Mode button (bottom right, near the input selector) till it displays Digital Optical.

If all else fails, reset the receiver by:
1. Turn off the receiver
2. Hold down DISPLAY and PANEL UP/DOWN buttons and press power.
3. All Clear should appear on the screen.

Use caution, however, as this will erase all the settings in your receiver.

Unable to hear dvd audio when dvd playing on Sony STR-DE575

Hi The first thing to do is disconnect the red and white audio cables from the back of the receiver, and plug them directly into the tv. If you then have sound from the DVD, then you have eliminated the possability of no audio coming out of the DVD player. If the DVD player checks out fine, then I would try plugging the jacks into another aux input on the receiver, and select that and see what happens. Also, if there is a "tape monitor" button on your Sony, make sure it is turned off. I'll assume the receiver has sound from other functions, so it would be rare for one of the inputs to just stop working, (but certainly not impossible), I'm not familiar with that model, and normally I would say it could just be a dirty selector switch, but since you mentioned having a remote, then switching between inputs is done by the microprocessor, not a physical switch, so if you cannnot get sound through using another input, then it could be expensive to repair. Hope this helps, and good luck!

Audio selector does not mute unselected inputs

There is a matrix switching IC on the circuit board that switches and routes the sources. This IC (for the audio) may be damaged, or it is not being properly commanded by the uPC controler. You will have to send the reciever to a qualified service tech to have this verified. Troubleshooting this can get involved if the fault is more than just the matrix IC.

Trouble getting a picture with a source selector

The input on your television monitor must be set to view the composite with the S video cable. You will not be able to view the component video unless you also have component video outputs going from the input selector to the television. After you have done that, you will also have to change your television input from "video 2" to whatever input you used for the component video hookup.
