The strainer pot on my Dynamo pool pump keeps coming off the pump.

We've tried rescrewing it in, being careful to catch the threads. Still pops off. We've tried teflon tape around the threads. No luck. We can't run the pump and filter until we can get it to hold. In the meantime, we're "dead in the water," so to speak. Any suggestions?

I'm assuming you mean whe you thread the strainer basket pot into the pump and tighten it it ends up being 90 degrees off center? That means you cannot turn it and additional 270 degree. Unthread and wrap multiplul wraps of teflon tape onto threads. Then I'd add lightly add some pipe dope. Tighten the assembly up, but stop when it is snug and aligned. The combination tape and dope should keep it from leaking, but remember this would be a suction leak, so check carefully

How to replace a Pentair dynamo strainer pot?

I believe the pot is screwed into the pump body/volute. Lift the complete pump enough to turn the entire pot counter clockwise, to unthread it off of the volute.

try changing the needle
rethread the machine top & bobbin
make sure to use every thread guide
make sure the bobbin is not over wound
make sure the bobbin is turned the right way in the bobbin case
make sure the bobbin is not warped or damaged
if you've done all these things then it's also possible that the machine

PAC-FAB / Pentair Dynamo pool pump parts, Discount parts for PAC-FAB Dynamo pumps

This site shows a separate part for the strainer body, but I'm not sure it is separate.
Call them with your model number and they can tell you if it unscrews and sell you the repair part that you need.
Worse case, you might have to see if you can remove the entire pump casing and purchase that.

I am trying to fill the pot strainer with water so I can start the pool pump

If the pot is higher than the pool, it will never fill to the top. Just fill it to the inlet level and it should be enough.
