Alpine CDA-9856. Search button for IPod will not bring up menu

Everything has been working great with my stereo/ipod direct access cable. the search button (left of the scroll wheel) will not bring up the IPod menu; such as Artist, Album, Playlist, etc. There doesn't seem to be any type of impediment under the button, it seems to depress correctly. I was wondering if there may be a reset process, or what else may be necessary. Thanks for your advice.

I have the same problem with a CDE-9870R and my iPod. I tried my daughter's iPod, and it works. I did not search any further, but it may come from the iPod software version. Mine is more up-to-date than hers (5th generation iPod 1.1.2 2006-06-28 update).

Cda-9885 ipod not searching

I had the same problem. I got it resolved by making the MIX OFF. Just press the button number 5 to make the MIX (Random Play)ON/OFF. After the search you can set the MIX to ON. However set the MIX to off before you start any search every time.

Sound Issues

The player has a built in safety device which only allows it to turn up so high. It help to avoid burning out your equip ment. Best way is to put sound on one device 3/4 ways up and then use the other device for adjusting the volume from there.

For sound in one channel; either there is a wire unplugged or not getting a good contact, or the player is set for mono instead of stereo

IPod will not work.

restoring factory settings won't revert the player back to previous ipod software. Check with the alpine website product support and see which ipod software versions are compatible with the car deck you installed. I would think the latest version would be supported. then go to the apple website and download the most recent version of itunes that alpine says is compatible. connect your pod and open itunes. upgrade the pod to that itunes version and try it again with the car deck.
