SOURCE: Kodak 5300 not printing colors

Kodak told me to take the printhead off and reseat it several times, which I did. I then deep cleaned it, calibrated it, and replaced the color cartridge. It didn't solve the problem. Kodak will replace the printhead for free, and after I return the defective one, will send me a free color and black cartridge. Very nice service. I've been very happy with the 5300.

SOURCE: I just bought a Kodak ESP 5210 and when it tried

Sounds like your print head needs replacing, exact same happened with me, appears to be a common problem with these Kodak printers, if new it should be covered under warrenty although good luck trying to get through to Kodak, I sent mine back in the end for a refund as long term print heads are around £65 each and they don't appear to last long

Kodak ESP 5250 printer. Replaced ink cartridges and print head. Still won't print.

There are several things that could be causing your Kodak ESP 5250 printer to not print even after replacing the ink cartridges and print head. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
  1. Make sure the cartridges are installed correctly: Double-check that the ink cartridges are correctly installed in the printer. The cartridges should click into place and the lock lever should be in the down position.
  2. Run a cleaning cycle: If the ink cartridges are installed correctly, run a cleaning cycle to clear any clogs in the printhead. Go to the printer's menu and look for a "clean printhead" option.
  3. Check ink levels: Make sure that the ink levels are sufficient for printing. Check the ink level indicator on the printer's display screen.
  4. Check for error messages: Look for any error messages on the printer's display screen or on your computer. If there is an error message, follow the instructions to resolve the issue.
  5. Restart the printer: Sometimes simply restarting the printer can resolve issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait a few minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on again.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be a more serious hardware issue with the printer that requires professional repair.

How to remove the ink cartilidge

How do I install a new printhead in my all-in-one printer? To replace the printhead in your all-in-one printer:
  1. Make sure the printer is on.
  2. Lift the printer access door and wait for the carriage to move to the access position.

NOTE: For ESP 3250 and ESP 5250 all-in-one printers:
    • On the printer control panel, press Home.
    • Select Maintenance, then press OK.
    • Select Install Ink Cartridges, then press OK.
If "Install Ink Cartridges" is not an available selection, upgrade the firmware.

  3. Remove any paper that may be loaded in the printer.
  4. Remove the black and color ink cartridges and set them aside.
  5. Remove the existing printhead:
    • For ESP Series Printers, unlatch the printhead by lifting the latch in the center of the carriage.

    • For 5000 Series Printers, unlatch the printhead by pressing the button in the upper-left corner of the carriage.

  6. Lift the printhead out of the carriage.
  7. Remove the new printhead from its bag.

CAUTION: Do not touch the copper contacts on the printhead, as this may damage it.

  8. Remove the plastic protective shields.
  9. Place the new printhead into the carriage.

  10. Push firmly against the target label of the printhead until you hear a loud snap.

  11. Insert the color ink cartridge into the printhead and press down until you hear it click into place.
  12. Insert the black ink cartridge into the printhead and press down until you hear it click into place.
  13. Close the printer access door.

The printer detects the new printhead. Follow the instructions on the LCD to calibrate your printer.
NOTE: ESP 3 all-in-one printers do not require calibration.
IMPORTANT: Be sure to use KODAK Ink Cartridges. Your KODAK All-in-One Printer is designed to work with KODAK Ink Cartridges. Kodak is not responsible for the compatibility or performance of either non-Kodak brand ink cartridges or refilled ink cartridges. You can purchase KODAK Ink Cartridges from the KODAK Store.

My printer only prints color..have installed new black cartridge but still only prints color so installed another new black cartridge and still only prints color

Unlike most printers where the print cartridge and printheads are attached and sold together, the ESP 3 has a separate printhead from the cartridges.

Remoe both cartridges. Then look at the place where the cartridges sit. There is a latch you push down in the back. This will release the printhead to allow it to be removed.

Remove the print head

Take a cotton swap and a little alcohol and clean the printhead of all ink. Repeat this until it is totally clean.

Make sure the printhead is dry and clean of all ink and alcohol.

Replace the printhead.

Place cartridges in and test.

If this does not work, then you need a new printhead for this printer.

here is an example of how to remove and replace printheads for thsi unit.
http://faqs.kodak.com/atg/faq/attachments/AUR1780-2.pdf

to gt a new printhead you must contact kodak
http://www.kodak.com/go/contact

probably as expensive or almost as expensive as a new printer.

The seperate printhead from the carts are why kodak can have their ink so cheap. Those other brands cost that extra 15-20$ for the attached new head with each cart.
