Sony GDP s301 won't play any discs

Played a blu ray movie last night, now that same disc, as well as any other disc will not play. Display reads can't play disc.

  • Anonymous Jul 16, 2012

Display reads can't play disc on any type of disc inserted. I've tried all forms of disc media, and get the same result. Tried a lense cleaner and got the same display reading.

Once you have found that Blu-ray player won't play Blu-ray disc, the first thing is to have a further check on your Blu-ray player because this is one of the main reasons that may result in the failure.
If you have checked your Blu-ray player and it turned out to be perfectly set, then the reasons for the failure may fall to the Blu-ray disc itself.
You can check on this tutorial for some more details;

SOURCE: When I try to play a Blue Ray DVD movie I get the

Use a q tip with a little bit (not dripping) of rubbing alcohol. Eject the tray, unplug, look for laser, you may have to do a little bit of disassembling, but have no fear if you have a digital camera at hand. Use the q tip and gently spin it between your fingers and lightly press against the laser lens. Let the lens dry and look for streaking,if it streaks, youre using too much alcohol. After cleaning, test with an audio cd,then regular dvd, then blu ray. If it works awesome,if it doesn't then the laser is most likely burned out.

My ps3 plays games but will not play blu ray movie

You can try clear your movie data from the discs you\'ve played (according to Fox that\'s sometimes the culprit when a disc won\'t even load): restart your PS3 and go to the video menu and scroll up to the BluRay Data section. Go into it and check that it has saved some info for your movies. Now deleted all the data in this folder except the shared data crap, and hopefully your movies start perfectly!!

If that fails try the following:

In the XMB(menus) go to Settings ---> BD/DVD Settings ---> BD 1080p 24 Hz Output (HDMI). Turn that off. This has also been known to work.

Blu-ray movies will play the previews but lock up before the main feature.

When was the last time you completed a firmware/software update? It sounds as if one needs to be completed. If the firmware is the most current and you have been advised that with it you should be able to view this movie in particular, then it could be the disc. If it is a rental disc it could be warped or missing some information. Lastly it could be the DVD drive itself, which would cost more that a new unit to repair if not in warranty.

Sonybdp-s301 won't play 2012

Sony BDP-S301 has an upgrade to Version 5.3 to support the new Blu-ray discs. Download the software here (Click the link). Read the procedure carefully and follow it exactly.
Note: The update makes use of a burned, finalized CD DISK, not a DVD Disk.

Chronicles of Narnia. Lion,witch,wardrobe blu-ray won't play

Updated firmware last night (for the Bd370) and the main movie disc for Chronicles of Narnia: Lion, witch, wardrobe worked (after previously stalling). However, the bonus disc still doesn't work when I play it (just a blank screen). I traded the Blue-ray DVD from where I bought it for another one, and it made no difference. However, both Narnia discs played okay in the store on a Sharp blue-ray DVD/Tv combo.

Screen freezes playing Blue Ray discs only.

I answer this question like ten times a day so don't feel bad.

The blu-ray laser in your PS3 is a three part laser (cd / dvd / blu-ray). They last only 1-3 years with average use. It's a Sony defect.

Check out my common PS3 problem and repair guide for tips and suggestions for your problem.
